List of Useful Threads Hood Paint bubble issue only

Do you know where I can find the information about the coverage on corroded panels on the 2016+ models being extended?

My 2017 has started to bubble at the front edge of the hood. Unbelievable that this would start within 18 months of build date! Whatever happened to quality is job 1? 6 model years in you’d think they would get there act together. Do the aluminum body F150 have the same issues with corrosion?

That's very disheartening news. There have been a few 2016 models reported here but I believe you are the first one with a 2017 to have mentioned the issue.

Incase anyone missed it. Enjoy your explorer again. It’s a cheap band aid.
Unfortunately that deflector won't stop the paint bubbling issue since it has nothing to do with paint chips etc. The corrosion is from the inside out, unlike the usual rust problems. All the deflector will accomplish is to hide the issue.

Peter

...the way the deflector attaches to this hood, i bet its catching some water and holding it under the lip in the deflectors gutter...

Hello firecadet613,

Let me look into this further. What’s the mileage on your Explorer?

TinMan4154,

Upon checking my resources, I see that you have initiated contact with the Better Business Bureau, and have an open arbitration claim. At this time, please continue to work with your Dispute Resolution Specialist to reach a resolution.

Bill #5 Explorer,

Thanks for sharing the great news, and I'm glad to learn that your concern was resolved.

I'll be here if you need me, and Happy Holidays! :)

Tricia

I have a 2016 Explorer that the front lip of my Hood is beginning to bubble in multiple dime size locations or larger. How do you recommend I begin a claim? Thanks in advance.

They have been gone for over 2 years. Visit your dealer for warranty.

I have a 2016 with 20,000 miles on it when the paint started to bubble. Dealer said they would replace the hood. While I was waiting for repairs I noticed a paint chip in the bumper. They repainted the whole front end no questions asked. It only has 27,000 on it now so not long for reliability.

No need to start a claim. Check your Warranty Guide that came with the vehicle. You'll find that there is a 5 year, unlimited warranty on issues like that. Just take it to the dealer.

It's not that easy. I've been fighting the dealer for going on 2 years. They tell me to talk to Ford, Ford tells me to talk to the dealer. Another dealer tells me Ford scores their customers and, the more new cars you buy the higher the score, and that is a huge factor in them either fixing it or giving you tye finger and making you go on a chase. Any help here for me as well would be great because I had an '05 that did it and was told to screw off and my '14 does it, not to mention my mothers '05 did it and now her '06 is showing signs. Not sure what else to do but it looks awful and is ruining my cars value.

It is easy if you are under the 3yr/36k. It is the dealers responsibility to put a warranty claim through and will need to upload pics for Ford to review. If you are under 3yr/36k, it is covered, if not, then you are out of luck.

If you were responding to my post then that warranty doesn't apply to your 2014. The 5 year, unlimited warranty applies to 2016+ Explorers.

I took my car to the Dealer to look at 16 different corrosion spots on my 2014 Explorer, that is garaged all the time. Dealer said Ford has to approve the repair, took 1 picture in the dark service area and sent it to Ford. Well Ford denied it.
I have -0- corrosion or bubbles anywhere else on the vehicle just the hood. How is this not a warranty issue??? I've had nothing but paint problems from when I first purchased new/ Like the rear hatch wasn't painted, inside of the doors barely painted. You can see the grey under coat.

Here are some pics Just to give you an idea.

My question is. Who can I call or write to appeal this? Thanks

I'm afraid you are probably out of luck like the majority of posters in this thread unless you are still under the factory warranty which seems to be unlikely. Once Ford denies the claim you are really up against it. There have been others that have also mentioned the 'barely painted? inner doors. FYI, the warranty on 2016+ Explorers has been extended to 5 years, unlimited mileage for corrosion on aluminum panels so obviously Ford has recognized there is an issue. Unfortunately there is no retroactive coverage.

It appears that I am going to have to call and make a service appointment for our 2016. My fiancé pointed out 3 bubbles under the paint last night. They are right at the leading edge of the hood. I need to go over the rest of it for a closer inspection before I go to the dealer. I haven't seen any on my '17 yet, but I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it.

I own a 2015 Ford Explorer, purchased brand new, has 25,000 miles and just found the bubbling on the front lip of my hood. My 3 year warranty was up in March 2018. I took it to the dealership that I purchased it from and they took pics and submitted them to Ford. They say Ford says no coverage, out of warranty. I understand 1 month out of warranty but this obviously didn't happen in one month. I called Ford customer service and was told that it was out of their hands because the service manager didn't dispute their decision. I speak to the service manager at the dealership today and she tells me I spoke with someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. BUT, she now has a small amount of money from Ford to cover such items. That her body guy estimates new paint on top and bottom of hood to be $800-$1000 and that Ford will only cover $300. I ask if this falls under my corrosion warranty, she said it usually requires a hole in the metal but she would call Ford and ask and call me back. I think this is crazy. I own a 1999 Ford Expedition that I've had for years and the paint on the hood of it is in better shape then this. I am definitely going to go over the entire body to see if there are any other bubbles!

This does not fall under the warranty you mentioned as it is not perforation. See my posts above. FYI, some members who had their hood 'fixed' had a reoccurrence of the issue at a later time. As for your Expedition, it doesn't have an aluminum hood. That is part of the problem. Good luck.

They are replacing the hood on my 2017 due to corrosion. When I took it into the dealership the bubbling was in many spots along the leading edge, not just the spot in the middle that I noticed originally. If all goes well the new hood will be in and painted by Friday so they can install it when it goes in for other scheduled warranty work.
