Alright I desided to start a thread to help inspire me to move forward with getting this done.

Today I picked up a 12' piece of 3/16" thick of 5"x5";) 136lbs of of steel at .59cents a pound:thumbsup:

My new rear buber design wll look kinda like a Trailready ZJ bumper. I already got another set of d rings for it, so we'll see where it goes from here;)

And what would my shipping be to 39531.....

...that'll work...

...what are you deciding to do with the spare tire...

Spare has to stay in the truck for now. I have 4" or so longer I can make the truck before it dosn't fit in the garage anymore.:( But it will be disgned like the above for two reasons.

1. Side protection
2. With the flat piece on both side I can easily weld in a spare tire gate with a douple hinge at a later date;) (when we move again, hopefully next fall and buy a house)

...cool...i hope to see you and your new bumper on the next run, it might be a while before you get to go play again...;)

Yeah but I hoping I'll have time to work on it then:(

I like it:thumbsup: very functional and appealing to the eye

Ok working on the Mock up (AKA cardboard bumper)

Here's what I got so far... but I need some help with the last three pics..

Colin, that's kinda what I was thinking, maybe up a little higher:rolleyes: I was think of puting backup lights in the corners like the TR bumper at the top.

Are you set on making guards like that for the taillights? What if you made a plate to fill in where the taillights are and stuck in some LEDs, then there's not as much of a risk of breaking them. Though the bars on the bumper would add to the rugged JP theme.

The reasons for the guards is more then just protecting the lights. The other reason is to set it up to build a spare tire gate again in the future. I can put the tire back on the back because of my garage is too small:(

Oh ok gotcha. BTW, i like your new signature...'Hauler of the Crawler' for the volvo. :)

Got a liitle progress done on this today:cool:

just took a 5x5 and sliced off the seam side, and it slips right over the frame like a glove:D

What did you use to cut it??

That looks more weather-resistant than the cardboard!

I gotta get me one those saws, you were telling me how much you liked it when I was at your dads house welding the cage.

Steve, I don't have a spare tire as of yet so if you want to toss yours in the bed of my truck it's cool with me plus I can use the weight back there;)

Dave, I'll have my spare too.

Cool thanx, mostly just wanted to get some weight back there for wheelin'. I'm not all that worried so much about getting a flat out there (knock on wood) given the terrain out there. I'm sure you guys wouldn't mind having that spare of the back of your rig for a weekend huh:D
