Finally got tired of looking at the rust on the dog legs. Driver side is definitely worse than the passenger side. Cleaned up and coated the areas with a rust inhibitor and black paint. Should slow the rust down until I can get the dog legs replaced.

Not to bad looking. I was on China Wall and scraped all the Drivers side rust off LOL. Well almost anyway. The little rock on the driver side thought it was cool to scrape up my Rocker. :-) I need to get my Sway Bars disconnected or make a quick disconnect for them. :-)

Hmmm I should’ve done your method of scraping rust instead:D Wire wheeling just throws a bunch of rust in your face:angryfire:

Both you and I need rock sliders...

Start with some quick disconnects and see how you like them. I used to have them but got tired of crawling on the ground... no sway bars at all anymore!

I have 321/2on my explorer need to get the gears changed but it is on the list of stuff to do

Painted my swing out today... that turned into painting the bumper... which then turned into welding in a hitch receiver....
That right there is the first symptom of "Restoration Syndrome" and is exactly how it gets started!
It's a very long and slippery slope that one never truly recovers from. Be careful and recognize the problem and you might have a shot of limiting it's effects on your wallet!

It’s too late for me! I’m past the point of no return:snicker:

Anything new on this Tim?

I think you can read my mind from a distance or something:p Been meaning to post all day!

My now wife and I got married a little over two weeks ago, so wedding stuff is all over. She wants to go to Georgia over my spring break in March for our honeymoon. So, that means the transmission swap is happening sometime around the middle of this month. Next week is the end of my fall semester and so I'll be ordering parts next week. The swap will happen as soon as the parts show up! With the trans swap I'll also be tackling replacing the rear main seal while I'm in there.

Other than that not much else new with the Explorer. Been driving it a lot with all the snow we've had though!

congrats on the wedding!!!!
truck is soooooo clean looks very nice
Did you weld that receiver along the sides or back too? or just along the front there?

Thank you!

The Explorer has been pretty well taken care of it's whole life!

Yep the receiver is welded on both the sides and back as well. The sides actually have angle welded between it and the bumper. I haven't used it as a recovery point yet though. The plan is to make braces that go back to the frame, similar to a weight distribution hitch. I'll end up bolting plates (hopefully using mostly existing holes) to the frame and welding the braces to those plates. It should make it a lot stronger and still be removable.
