2000 ford explorer xlt
I have a 2000 explorer xlt 4.0 v6. My cel came on for a code p0500. I replaced the speed sensor on the rear diff, cleared the code and it came back. Speedometer, odometer and trip meter all do not work. Connection and wires seemed fine so Im not sure what it is. Any help is appreciated.

You might check the fuses

Which fuses should i check related to the speed sensor?

The 4 wheel abs pump is what takes the signal from the rear axle vss and sends the signal on to the dash, gem module, pcm and cruise control

Is your abs light on also?
Did you check manufacture specific codes?

Check all fuses that deal with abs and gem module

abs light isnt on. Fuses all seem good. I checked them with a test light.

do you have a scanner or app that can watch live data? I would like to see the vehicle speed on the scanner as you drive… need to determine if the pcm knows you are moving
Does the speedometer work? I see you posted it does not.
Okay so next step is to check wiring from vss to abs pump. The speed sensor wires are twisted together a green and a pink
Can you check continuity from the abs pump to the rear axle vss? We are looking for a break in the wire(s)

The fact that no abs light tells me the abs pump is happy with the other speed sensors ( for the front wheels)
