Just put some 31s on my mounty and wanted to know how to correct the speedo? Earlier models had the little gears you change out T-case but the 2000 has a VSS doesn't it? I have a high end code reader/tool.

Try to find some 4.1 diffs
That can help move those 31 and get your speedo back to center

It moves the 31s just fine. I barely notice a difference. Other than the speedo and shift points being a little off. I'm in the rust belt of Virginia. So finding any 4.10 diffs that are usable is gonna be a joke. ( my mounty is 100% rust free) I think it lived out west before I found it here.
Plus, i take alot of road trips. So the slightly lower cruise rpm at 75-80 with 3.73s/31s will be a tad better on gas.

I read those threads and didn't really find anything definitive. One guy said he bought a scan tool and fixed his. But didn't explain how. I can fumble my way through my scan tool to try and find it, if it will.

You can use a Dakota digital speedometer interface device to take control of the speed shown, they are about $110
There are others on the market too
I use them when I do v8 swaps but basically you take control of you speedo and can adjust it with Bluetooth as you drive

Sports and sport tracs also 99-01 Eddie Bauers with the 4.0 sohc are often 4.10

@I6CJ7 Now that is a beaut! She's super clean! Those tires look good on her, too.

I don't know if you might have to pay for it, but when I changed the tire size and axle ratio (33" on 5.13 gears) on my '99 Sport, my local Ford dealer (which I don't use any more, for other reasons) adjusted the speedometer for the new tire size and gear ratio for me for free. It's not a very involved process and takes less than five minutes; if you don't have the tools to do it yourself, call up a Ford dealer and see if they can do it and if they'd even charge for it.

The speed sensors are Hall effect sensors and since Ford offered Explorers with different axle ratios and tire sizes, post-98 2nd-gens calculate vehicle speed using the actual tire diameter and axle ratio. If you can interface with the computer, it's as simple as changing one number.

I've been using 31's for long time. Only thing I noticed is going 68 mph when speedo says 65. No reprogram. No "shift point" difference at all. 373 gearing

Welp I'm working on it tomorrow and will report back. Thankyou! Very happy with the truck. The paint on the hood and roof is pretty beat, needs sanding, clear coat and maybe some new paint. But it's 100% rust free. And that's all I care about. Slightly off topic, Here's another Pic of the tires for you guys.
