My daughters headlight got hit, rain leaked in and has now stopped working. I'm assuming I need to replace whole headlight assembly since it's cracked. The attached pic is what is in it. This type of light seems very expensive to replace. Can I convert to a different light or am I forced to pay several hundred dollars for this type? I'm pretty clueless and appreciate all advice!

Welcome to the forum!

Did you examine the contacts for corrosion? Maybe what you have can be cleaned off and put back into service? Make sure not to fire the bulb up with fingerprints on it, can crack it.

Here is what looks like the aftermarket replacement for the Xenon driver module, $100:

They also have the HID bulbs:

I'd imagine you only have one or the other failed, not both the bulb and the driver.

I don't know about "forced" since you could try to scavenge some if not the whole thing at a junkyard, but from what I see on Rock Auto, there are different lens/housing part #s according to vehicle build date:

FO2518111 {BB5Z13008P, BB5Z13008T, BB5Z13008V}
Left; Xenon/HID (High Intensity Discharge); To 1-14-11

VARIOUS MFR FO2519111 {BB5Z13008K, BB5Z13008S, BB5Z13008U}
Right; Xenon/HID (High Intensity Discharge); To 1-14-11

FO2518127 {BB5Z13008V}
Left; Xenon/HID (High Intensity Discharge); From 1-14-11

They list no right, xenon/HID From 1-14-11

That's just Rock Auto, the driver you pictured can be had for $42 on ebay

Various places sell the D3S bulbs cheaper than Rock Auto too, but I don't know what color temperature your originals were, to match the new bulb to the old. It may have a sticker or part # you can use to look that up. On Amazon the bulbs run from $22 for brands I've never heard of, to about $70 and up for major brands.

As far as conversion, you're going to want both the left and right sides the same, either stick with xenon HID or switch both housings and bulbs to halogen, then I don't know what else is involved with that, probably a connector change and possibly something related to the lamp out warning system. All of that could also be scavenged from a junkyard if they don't have any donors with the HID option, only halogen.

However I also notice there may be differences among the halogens for your model year, on Rock Auto they have one that states: From 1/21/2011 (vehicle build date).

Thank you so much!!! This is all great info. I didn't even think about going to a junk yard. My dad used to do that and I had forgotten about it over the years, I guess. I really appreciate you answering!

Welcome to the Forum. :wave:
Keep in mind that bulbs tend to dim over time so you may not get a perfect match in light output but it sure beats 0 output.;)
