2016-18 PIU FORScan Mods

At the risk of sounding argumentative, auto lock & unlock does not work correctly, even if enabled on PIU. I'd like to have that...but it must be turned on with every re-start...

(To that end, Forscan shows an option of adding the auto windows up and down with the key fob...but this also doesn't work in the PIU)

Remote start settings may be enabled in the IPC...but r/s ill not function without an aftermarket solution to turn it on.

Keyless entry is already in the truck...but the fobs must be enabled via IDS to function.

I have a '16 PIU and have gotten familiar with them. I have installed via Forscan and some hardware, auto headlights, intelligent AWD gauge, park lights flash with lock, horn honk with second lock press, disabled DRLs....and I'm sure some other things I'm forgetting...
I have enabled RKE and auto-lock/unlock for a PIU before. You may want to double-check your BCM settings. Some police features such as the police rear door will need to be disabled for this to work properly.

I'll check it out. I never tried to enable auto lock as I read too many times that it won't work, unless reset every start in the IPC.

Police rear door? do you mean the hatch or the rear passenger doors? The rear passenger door controls are disabled with hardware and easily reversed.

I'll double check my notes as its been about 4-5 years but the settings enabled by default on PIUs was called 'Police Rear Door' - I assume it's the hatch but also changes the way locking works.

Someone needs to change the title of this to Forscan RKE and remote start discussion. I came here looking for mods but was very disappointed.🤷🏻‍♂️

Welcome to the Forum.
The 'Search' feature can help find certain items. For example, I searched on FORSCan RKE and came up with 13 different posts discussing that.
Here is just one of them. 2016-18 Police Utility Forscan Settings

And

To program the key fob, would be the same switch ACC on and off 7 times on 8th keep on locks cycle and programed?
Doesn't work on 16 up piu dealer only about $170 for two fobs and programming

Hey guys,

A while back I had a 2015 PIU and successfully made a bunch of mods using an OBD connector and FORScan installed on my laptop.
Including: AWD Display, RKE, Dark Car etc.

I am buying a 2016 PIU now, which to my understanding is the next generation and after spending hours and hours on the forums reading through the threads realized that things will not be as simple on this one as the previous gen.

I would like to confirm: If I purchase a hood switch and a FOB (GB5Z-15K601-C or Amazon product ASIN B0184O6PFW) and change the code in FORscan will that allow keyless entry as well as Remote start? or will i have to play around with aftermarket stuff?

will all the the other changes I had in my 2015 work in the newer gen?

Is there an updated comprehensive FORscan code list available for the 2016-18 PIU?

Thanks
Hey happy to see you go to a 2016.
I have a question about your 2015 if you can help me. How did you accomplish placing AWD display on?

...check if these options are available in the English menu(easy mode settings in forscan) before programming it with as-built data
Are you still around? I tried these changes, and got a warning about only being able to reset the column lock type once, so I stopped the process. I was so surprised that I forgot to take a pic of that warning, but I think it referred to 726-23-01 even though I didn't intend to change that. Afterward, it looked like none of the new parameter were written, and I didn't notice any changes, but I had already written some others a few minutes before. I got AutoLock & -Unlock in the menu as well as a few other new options, but I couldn't tell that they did anything, either, but I haven't read the details of what they're supposed to do yet. I can't find any mention in the owner guide.

Yes, what change are you looking to make? I don’t have a vehicle I can test remote start changes on.

If 'auto lock-unlock' works, I'd be glad for info on that. I have mentioned before, when I was able to turn auto lock-unlock on, my gas gauge didn't work. Had to revert back.

ok I will first state that auto lock and unlock is possible I did it on my 2018 but needed some hex line changes designed for an f150 thru forscan to work. second If you only have a basic key and no remote key less entry you will need the hood switch and on my 2018 I also needed the keyless/remote start modual it goes inline with the dtc port that you plug your scanner in here is a link I am sure it was this one Genuine Ford Vehicle Security System - JS7Z-19A361-A | Levittown Ford its been awhile though and I dont have my explorer nearby to verify and you will need a new key fob if you dont already have one. I went with factory setup as I got it free however there seem to be some good aftermarket kits out there that are better and cheaper

Yes, what change are you looking to make?
Just about anything that will make a decommissioned trooper vehicle more comfortable & useful. I've done some cautious ForScanning with generally good results, but this one warning caught me off-guard. I haven't bought the hood switch, security module, daylight sensor, auto headlight/fog switch, B-pillar keypad... But I did get some blue LEDs for accent lighting, and I'm looking for 2nd-row seats with floor latches (or just latches to swap onto my seats).

The latest spreadsheet I've found is 2/16/22. Is there a newer one that applies to '16-19s, or has pretty much everything been found for this range?

I used a Fortin Evo-All for remote start, using my factory key fobs. It was almost 100% plug and play. It was originally programmed to not require the hood pin, but I added that, too.

With Forscan I was able to set up all the remote start options....during the initial install it simply worked the climate control on "automatic".

If memory serves, the auto headlights were as simple as adding the sunlight sensor and auto switch.

DM me if something is incorrect:
Thanks. I don't think it's incorrect - it's just unclear on a few things. Do you know why I would have gotten the warning about the steering column? Have you heard of that warning before?

That 1-24-24 spreadsheet seems more-clear about global windows than I recall others being; it seems like that only works if DDM & PDM are present, and I don't think my PIU has them. Is that correct? Do the DDM & PDM each control their rear windows, too?

None of the versions are clear about the double horn honk - is that only for IAK (pushbutton start)? And does it only happen when that key moves outside the vehicle? Or also when using the remote lock button when a door isn't fully latched? Or is that a different feature/setting?

What is "car finder", and is there a list that explains each of these terms/features? Does lamp outage only apply to factory-type incandescent/HID bulbs? What is "door ajar lighting color" - just interior ambient courtesy lights, or something more? Does it apply to PIUs? I think I understand no. of turn signal flashes; that's the duration of lane-change signal when the lever isn't pushed onto the mechanical latch, right?

The rows with "enable" or "disable" in their titles aren't clear because that's also the setting choices. So "Remote Start Enable Cfg" would either be set to "Remote Start Enable Cfg Enable" or "Remote Start Enable Cfg Disable", which becomes unclear either way. Are we enabling or disabling a configuration of the remote start? If so; should it be titled "Remote Start Configuration" with the choice to either enable or disable it? And if configuration is enabled - where do you then go to configure it? Does that setting create a new submenu in the instrument cluster with rem.st. configuration choices? Does that setting work for all clusters, or just the high-trim clusters? And what's the difference between that and "Rem.St.SBW Ignition Enable Cfg"? I don't think I've seen a definition for "SBW" - what is it? An older version of that spreadsheet (2-23-22 with 16 pages) has PIU-specific settings on p.2; does the single-page 1-24-24 version you just linked NOT apply to my PIU?

Lastly (yeah, I know!) : is there any negative consequence of enabling something that my vehicle doesn't have, and may not have for a while/ever? Like if my cluster isn't capable of showing a remote start cfg. menu, does enabling that menu cause any problem? Or enabling global windows without DDM/PDM? Or any other you can think of?

I realize that's a lot of questions, but I actually HAVE been reading a lot of old threads looking for these answers, and I haven't stumbled across them yet. If it's easier to link me to old threads you know of with the answers instead of re-typing them, I don't mind reading a bunch of links. Thanks again.
I used a Fortin Evo-All for remote start...
From where, for how much? Was it PnP or did it require splicing? Got a link?

Have you added fog lights, or dash/rear cams, or a big touchscreen, HS/HSW, folding 2nd-row seats, rear speaker grills, rear USB, Aluminum wheels, hitch receiver/wiring, parking sensors...?
If 'auto lock-unlock' works, I'd be glad for info on that.
I believe that's working on mine now, and I do specifically recall that, after one round of writing, the fuel gauge pegged low with an instrument cluster DTE warning. But I ignored it, and after the next module was written, the gauge & DTE returned to (apparently) normal (I don't remember what they were before).

I bought the Evo-All from Lessco Electronics. With the exception of tapping for the park lights to work when the engine is running on remote start..it was plug and play. If memory serves, it was well under $200.

I tried more than once with auto-lock, with the same result. Gave up. That's why I asked if there was some new info...I'd be glad to know.

I did add a forward dash cam, along with a battery to keep it from pulling the car's battery down. This battery charges while the engine is running and runs the dash cam (if memory serves) about 18 hours when parked. I had planned on foglights, just haven't gotten that far. I did use a civilian Explorer switch panel to add accessories. one switch is used to turn the electronic airhorn on or off, while the other operates front and rear flashers (wig-wag).

I didn't care about most civilian stuff, I prefer the exterior with the black wheels, etc. I did swap the rear door panels with civilian panels, and the interior B pillars. too. I put in carpet. As far as the rear vinyl seat goes...I don't sit back there...it's fine. I am considering a SYNC3 update....but would likely use a kit from 4D or similar.

Is yours like this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0047XSLLQ?tag=seriouexplor-20 The reviews there mention a lot of problems because it requires programming, which requires another module, and an activation, and seller support...
I believe this is it. The seller programs them before shipment. Truly was simply to install
