I have a 1993 Ford Ranger with Manual lockout hubs and electronic button for 4X4 and LOW RANGE..my question is i put it in 4 wheel (locked in the hubs and pushed the button) then i took it out..(i unlocked the hubs and then pushed the button again) and the light wont shut off next to the button and the light on the dash wont shut off. its not in 4 wheel but the light says it is..i have tryed puttin em in and out and driving backwards and everything. im thinking the switch but not sure? read a couple threads on the actuator and what not but it works when it wants too its just 'stuck'. any tests i can do with the switch? or anything? new to FORDs so please help
thank you guys!

anyone? cant help me? im new come on

I havent dealt with manual hubs in many years but when coming out of 4x4 if you explained it correctly you said *unlocked the hubs and then pushed the button (to turn off 4x4)* shouldnt you push the button to turn off 4x4 and then unlock the hubs? -I may be off the mark like i said its been a while...

ill try it..see if it works..

First off it really sounds like the transfer case in not disengaging.
when you hit the button do you hear clicking in the cargo area on the driverside (explorer) on a ranger i don't know where where the 4x4 computer located. IF you are the computer telling the transfer case to disengaged but the transfer case is not disengaging it means you transfer case shifter motor might not he good or have short.

its not in 4 low is it?

nope 4-high..i am driving it now with the hubs locked OUT and the light on? is that safe?

OKay manual hubs lock the wheel to the axleshaft on the lock position.
When they are in the unlock position the wheel is disconnected.
They are that simple.

You do not have to back up, or press the button or do anything to lock/unlock the hubs

Your problem with the 4x4 light is with the transfer case and shift motor.
Not with the hubs.
It is okay to drive with the hubs locked and the truck not in 4x4.
It is okay to drive with the truck in 4x4 and the hubs unlocked.
However you need to fix your transfer case shift motor so it shifts from 2, 4hi and 4 low.

backing up is something you can do if you feel binding in the front end WHILE in 4x4 with the hubs locked. Binding occurs from time to time if you are making alot of turns while in 4x4 or on dry pavement.

Here is what I normally do when I come out of 4 low, then 4 hi
Take truck out of 4 hi, stop. reverse 10 feet or so.
Get out, unlock hubs.

This will typically "unwind" the axleshafts and U joints back to the differential.
You dont have to do it this way, but I do.
