hello everyone at this time I am rebuilding the 5.0 liter engine in my 2000 explorer XLT . The block and heads will remain stock. But I did upgrade the cam to an E303 from ford racing. And also added a dubble roller timing chain and 1.7 raito roller rockers. As soon as i get it done I will let everyone no how it runs.:us:

the 1.7 roller rockers require longer pushrods I believe, I hope you replaced them and its a good idea to get new lifters as well

You will be happy with the E cam, if you have not already you really should consider the TM headers otherwise the stock manifolds are choking the power you can make big time

thank you for the info. the 1.7 was not my idea I let someone talk me into them. I was going to stay with the stock 1.5 ratio . but its to late now. I did chango the lifters they came with the cam I got. I will think about the headers thank you.

Yes--I definitely want to know how this works for you--
Ths stock ratio is 1.6--:D

I must second the Torquemonster header suggestion. You wouldn't believe the amount of port protrusion in the stock manifolds--I cannot pass my thumb thru the #3 port on a stock set--

thank you for telling me what the stock raito was. I was told they were 1.5 by a guy who makes a living working on cars. I did some checking on my own and found out that 1.6 was stock for the 5.0 mustangs but was unable to find any info on the explorer thats why i got on here tonight you guys are great thanks for all the info.

p.s. the headers will have to wait until next year.

where can you get the headers and about how much are they

welcome

At .498 lift (with stock rockers), the e-303 cam has more lift than stock heads can benefit from already. once the the valve lift exceeds about 30% the diamater of the valve, there is no flow gain, only air velocity lost.

if you run the 1.7 rockers, except a power band which doesn't kick in until over 3,000 rpm.

also, with the increased rocker ratio, it adds a lot more stress to the cam, lifters, and pushrods. it will also give you valve float at a lower rpm than stock rockers.

i'd recommend going stock rockers. i suppose you can always change back when you realize you hate them.... are you running a stock torque converter?

edit: crap.. just realized this thread is ancient. oh well.. i suppose by now he's already learned that a big cam with all stock parts sucks with huge rockers.

It's better to move it into the correct section to make it easier for people to find at a later date. Sam was welcoming 1998 5.0 who joined this month. That member was the one who knew how to search, and bring an old thread back to life.

Are you sure about that? :p:

Just having fun with this Brooklyn. Someone's got to manage the multitude of new member posts. You, Sam et al do a good job at it.
