97 EXPR and 87 Ranger
Hello Everyone,

Just got my funding for my project today and it now time to get my 5.0 project underway.

Im pulling my 5.0 and from my 97 and transplanting everything (minus the tranny back) to a 1st Gen Ranger on an Explorer D35 and 8.8.

The 302 will be mated to a 4x4 '97 M5OD and np208.

My 5.0 has GTP's and 330k KM on it and is well due for a overhaul.

Besides the rebuild i potentially looking to add few mods to it.

This will definitely include TM headers and maybe a new cam.

My primary goal for this project, believe it or not, is fuel economy... well, and power.

I'd appreciate any advice that could be given with this in mind.

Currently, I am having some issue finding some good info on cam swaps.

I hear that the stock cam isnt that great to cams out there.

Any thoughts on a cam that that may offer a little better economy/performance?

On that note, are there any other weak points on the stock 5.0 that a guy should be aware of?
I know the stock headers were no good-hence why Im interested in the TM's.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks guys

I would avoid the Ford "alphabet" cams (E303, B303, X303, etc). They are very dated and most aren't good for a heavy application.

Consider a modern cam made for an off-road or 4x4 application, as the power curve for a Mustang is not really ideal in a truck.
