Pondering some options. what direction should i go with the navajo?

Option 1: 4.0ohv engine, c5 tranny, and 1350 t-case with doubler

or

Option 2: 5.0 engine, 4r70w tranny and single t-case

things im thinking about are difficulty, price, and the fact that i already have the doubler and c5 at home and the 4.0 is already in my car. only thing i dont like about that is..... the 4.0 is gutless! thats a lot of work for a car that will still bog out in the sand.

so which is best? whats your opinion? keep in mind this drive train is multi purpose, be able to crawl the hammers, carve sand dunes, and a little bit of street-ability

I think the issue is you have a "multi" or "dual" purpose vehicle ;).

So on one hand, you want to rock crawl, which doesnt really take a very gutsy engine since doublers and t-cases provide more than enough torque to break axle shafts. On the other hand, you want to run fast in the desert which means more torque at high RPMs.

thats the problem!

auto dual case would be perfect crawler.but possibly i can v8 and dual case later? hmmm. its just that if i'm going to do serious work to the drive train, I should go big or go home. Either way im going to break axles and have to upgrade that too.....

I really wanted to see that 2.3l turbo navajo get finished, cause that really interests me (more for a b2 than an explorer though)

Maybe you should get a different 4.0;) Then run your C5/Doubler.

That's is pretty much our plan for the next project. SOHC/C5/Doubler and some Super Duty Axles on 40-42's:D

or

I'll trade you your 4.0 C5 bell housing for a 5.0 C5 bell housing:D

you wouldnt happen to want to buy a c5 and doubler would you? that would decide my direction :D

- Techieman, thats what I was I thinking.

Engine swap might be hard with my engine cage, maybe i should run the 4.0 with a cam, headers, and 100 shot of nitrous

I'll do a straight trade for an explorer 5.0, tranny, and wiring harnes

what trans is that? looks too long to put in a 2door

5.0 With the auto you will be able to crawl with the doubler just fine. How much for the C5? How much for the 5 speed there now?

dont know. what are they worth? the 5speed has been rebuilt recently, have the receipt.

im leaning towards keeping the c5 and doubler, then throwing a cam and headers on the 4.0

unless someone makes an offer on the c5 doubler setup :D
