5.OL shortblock swap

Just because only a half dozen individuals have posted on this thread doesn't mean nobody else is paying attention. The thread has been viewed more than 1,600 times. I am very interested in what you're doing since I hope at some point to replace the SOHC V6 in my Sport with a V8.

To answer an earlier question, Ford Windsor engines have had roller cams since 1985.

thanks Rod, really thought it was me looking 1600 times to check for replies lol

so 1985 and up 351W were roller too??? man i feel like a i made a mistake now because i would much rather have put a 351w in it for the extra 50lb/ft... maybe ill get to do it in the future now that im learning the right way to do it!
thanks for the support guys, this thing has really been getting me down as it is the longest project i have ever done lol and at times it seemed impossible but now im conquering it a little chunk at a time, ill try to get some pics uploaded after this weekend and (pray for me) hopefully i can get a startup video

is the sport lighter then a 4door?? if so... get a 351 from a f150 circa 1990 or newer... get the whole thing, get aftermarket cam heads and intake and use explorer everythingelse that should make for a pretty badass ride... if i would have known the 351s were rollers thats what i would have done... should have done more research first but my wife was in a big hurry lol ended up taking this long to not get done so we could have waited to buy the SB lol they are usually about the same price as a 5.0L

Date revision...

The 302 [or 5.0 liter] was a roller engine from 1985... The 351W did not come from Ford as a roller engine until 1995...And that was all 351W engines not just the Lightning engine...

ok 95 f1500 then thats the one we want, cheap and plentiful needs a cam like a fat kid needs cookies

too much custom

A 351W would require a custom oil pan, exhaust manifold and motor mounts to fit. It would also require a custom synchronizer and trigger wheel to work with the Explorer PCM. I would prefer the longer stroke of the 351 but it's probably not worth the effort required to install it.

custom headers... cant just use the f150 stuff??

You mean 94. Block casting #f4te-6015-aa. I have a 94 E150 club wagon. It was ordered on 10/21/1993, picked it up 12/5/93. It has a roller ready 351w, with a flat tappet cam.

anyone know the specs on the stock '99 GT40P explorer/Mountaineer camshaft???
im so excited to start working on this beast again tomorrow i cant sleep!!!!
any tips on the top starter bolt removal?
any chance march underdrive pulleys for 93 mustang will fit this thing?? i got em for 25$ in the box so i figured what the hell i can always sell them if it wont work... also where do u guys get GOOD plug wires?? i ordered some ford racing 9mm from summit but they are obviously not the right ones

The explorer cam is the same as the 5.0l truck cam (F150, E150, etc). I dont have the specs in this computer, google it.

k thanks sno ranger will do

The spec's for the 5.0L Truck engine (F4TE-6250-BA) are:

Int. Lift -- .422
Ext. Lift -- .448
Int. Dur. -- 256
Ext. Dur. -- 266
Lobe Center Line 116

doesnt make sense why theyd use a cam like that... should have just put the HO cam in it from the factory got the good heads and intake and the smallest cam they could find?? im looking around now for a comp xtreme 4x4 cam if i can find one for a reasonable price ill swap it when i swap in the efans in the near future

Better low end torque. The Ex is a heavy truck.

yeah use the HO cam and put a 2k stall in the tranny, move it along just fine.... im looking for a 93 cobra cam or an xtreme 4x4 cam to swap when i do the efans... cant wait to get done work and get over there to work on it!

Subscribin. Dream is to replace the 4.0 OHV with 5.0 one day.

5.0L Comp Cams Xtreme 4x4?

I believe the Comp Cam Xtreme 4x4 is available for the Windsor 5.8L but not the 5.0L.

sno u sure about that?? thats crazy, i will look though...
about the heat issue, i have a 3500k stall in my 87 firebird and NO trans cooler lol it doesnt get driven much though...
the mounty is already plumbed for a trans cooler so its as simple as getting a larger one and plugging it in
