Great work on the overhead console, man! I'll be buying a house soon and plan to set up some fab equipment so I can do more with mine. Can't even wrench at my rental house, which is why my transmission swap is taking so long.

Good luck with the forward progress of this truck; it's coming along very nicely!

Thanks, was going to say that, but forgot to add it. My point is, it would take me a long time to get anything done, and I would feel obligated to purchase a vendor membership if I were to start doing that. Something to think about. I'm going to be really busy for a while with school, so I'm going to research everything, especially materials, since they won't always have that size at a salvage yard, and buying new would really drive the price up.

Thanks. My next major endeavor will probably be the rear bumper. There is a thread I have subscribed to entitled "show us your custom bumpers" (which I found after I built my front, of course) that I found alot of great ideas in. I plan on taking a little of everything, and making it better. In the mean time, I plan on putting f-150 spring seats up front, and an economy add-a-leaf in the back to level it out and fix my rubbing issues, as well as give me a little more ground clearance. Where I wheel, my limits are determined by clearance, not traction, as you might imagine with a tire that aggressive.

well, it has been an interesting weekend for things to go wrong. First off, my speedometer finally bit the dust, it has been wobbling back and forth for a while, but now you have to be going at least 30 for it to even move, then it jumps and wobbles back and forth over a 10-15mph range. Makes things interesting, will fix sometime in imediate future, perhaps tomorrow.

Then, my rear u-joint on my rear shaft gave out, I noticed a bad vibration at anything over 25 or so, and the culprit turned out to be this messed up joint. This, however, was an easy fix, as I winched the parts car over onto its side and pulled the shaft. (have pics, will add later)

Does anyone know if the vibration dampner in the circle does anything? My truck does not have one, but the axle housing has the flange for it to mount to. I don't want to bother putting it on if it serves no real purpose.

Finally, was going to finally put my exhaust back together, but realized I am out of welding wire, so no bueno there. (considered arc for about 3 seconds, then decided I was really not that worried about it) However, got alot done cleaning out the shop, so I can use these puppies again. They came from a car dealership that went out of business. Makes things like transmissions, transfer cases and such really easy.

My 91 doesnt have the vibration dampner thing on the rear end either but it has the holes.

The 8.8 I got off a 94 Explorer I have in my Ranger had the dampner on it when I got it. I removed it and I havent had any vibration problems or anything out of it so I would say its not needed.

It hangs up on things when your wheeling.. I removed mine a long time ago for that reason.

well, more adventures last night, I get a phone call that my brother has gotten his truck stuck. What I did not realize was were he got it stuck, and why it was stuck

That picture is taken from the part of the trail where my ex was, so he was down in a pretty good-sized hole. The reason he got stuck is that the front u-joint on the front driveshaft came apart.

That's a 37" IROK, so you know he's dug in pretty well.

Never a dull moment. With the help of my winch and a snatch block, it came out easily, though I need to upgrade my battery cables on the winch, as they got really hot.

ohh, forgot to mention this, but the other day I did this mod to my truck.

First Gen 9007 Headlight Conversion

That is most definitely worth doing. Anyone that drives a first gen should seriously consider doing this. I think that is one of the better things I have done, as it drastically increases visibility at night. (the KCs do too, but they aren't exactly legal and tend to aggravate other drivers)

Umm, WOW. Looks like you need to upgrade your battery cables. I wonder if running a second battery just for the winch would be a good idea?

yeah, what I will probably do is get a battery with a larger CCA rating, with both side and top post terminals and hook the winch up to the side posts. I plan on running a dual battery setup, but the aux. battery will be in the back of the truck.

well, due to it being midterm, I haven't done anything to the ex other than drive it, which is rare, but kinda nice. Did wash it, which does not happen very often, and it turns out that it looks pretty good when it gets somewhat clean. (Pay no attention to my 3 different pinstripe patterns....)
