Sup forum I've been having issues lately with coolant leaks. So last night i replaced the T-housing lower half after i saw that the gasket was melted out (looked melted and fell apart when i took it out) i was also going to do the water pump but it was late and i ihope that it was indeed the housing. But now that im testing it out i notice some light puddles under both wheels so i opened the hood and saw (the hose im pointing at flew off) its happened before any thoughts why?

Its a 2001 sport 4.0 automatic 222.639 miles on it.

Because the clamp is missing.

Before you clamp it, make sure you can blow air through the line and into the coolant overflow tank. Should hear bubbles in the tank

I might add, you should remove the reservoir, turn it upside down and rinse out the gunk. The bypass hose will pass pressure from the radiator, and also flow coolant back to radiator while cooling. It's when the engine is cooling the gunk gets sucked into the bottom outlet creating a clog. It the hose blew off, it's clogged and need cleaned out. You might be able to drain the reservoir and sucker debris out with a shop vac

No need any clamp on this hose. And no need in pressure. Just get rid of a pressure in the cooling system and there will be no problems.

Cooling systems should be under some pressure.

Yeah, but I ride bout 9 years with no pressure and it's fine.
Millions of vehicles have driven for almost 100 years with pressure. There’s a reason it’s pressurized. You could also drive around forever with 4 quarts of oil, doesn’t mean it’s better.

Yeah, but I ride bout 9 years with no pressure and it's fine.
Loss of pressure ( leaking cap) will result in boilover. Duh

Disregard, I has the dumb today

If you want to run without pressure, consider using propylene glycol.
With ethylene, I would advise pressure.
I'm curious what your reasoning is for this recommendation.

not sure, but i think its that low pressure can cause it boil over, and as such propylene is less toxic than is ethylene. so if it boils over its less bad for the environment, and elss toxic. though disregarding toxicity, isnt ethylene more efficient at heat transfer? and also isnt ethylene's boiling point a few deg higher than is propylene? and isnt ethylene freezing point lower? im forgetting though, taking chemistry this year, though! we havent talked about coolant though... but lots about rust ;)

yeah, I’ve got my wires crossed today. Taking the MCAT next week and my brain ****ing hurts from all this studying

dang!!! good luck!!! still in HS, my brain hurts with finals upcoming... taking all the hard classes 🤣

If I have a leak, I fix it and run the system under pressure as it was designed to be run. There's more to engine cooling than whether or not the cooling system leaks.

Best wishes!

Of all the years owning the Ex ive never noticed a clamp being used there this started just recently. Ive changed the bypass and thermostat lower housing i went in for the upper half because i noticed some (looked like filed down center part that covers the thermo) but oreilly gave me a part that was a couple centimeters taller than oe so i couldnt fit it under the intake. This is the only thing i hate about the Ex the parts always come just a smidge off from OE. Pisses me off when just an O-ring doesnt sit right so i have to reuse the old and drive down to the parts store for another

After 20+ years, that overflow hose loses elasticity, and needs a little help to stay on the nipple, especially when hot coolant is venting though it.

Seriously - Right where your finger is pointing, put a flexible thin diameter zip tie around the hose, pull it tight, and you'll be fine.
