When I got my Explorer(free via inlaws), it came with the standard two front buckets and the 60/40 split seat behind them. I needed more with a family of 7. =no bueno!
I wanted to share my success after installing "aftermarket" seats. For inquiring minds, this was about a three hour project. These nice grey leather seats came out of a late eighties Mercedes. Had to specifically find seats that had 'flat feet' so to speak so bolting to the floor I wouldn't run into any issues. Also, my major concern was not bolting into the fuel tank. There were a few other dry fits that didn't work because of this(jumper seats from Datsun pickup). Later, as time permits, I would like to remove the factory seat rails and bolt the actual seat bottom-and gain about six inches of headroom-to a plate to then be bolted to the rear floor with some kind of quick-release mechanism.
If you'd like to post pics of your success and stories about adding more seats, here's your chance to hijack my thread!
Also in this thread I thought it would be beneficial to have other posts relating to the Third Row Seats/Jumpers in the Second Gen compiled for other users as well.
