it would be better to use cheap spray paint other than primer as primer holds water, , and you could make it white so it doesn't stand out so much,

Sean, id really appriciate that man, are you sure though?

I'll dig around for my spare DA's right now and let you know... Hey Joe, what do you think about the g110v2 being used as a regular DA sander?
Will the dust screw it up? And you know under those running boards lurk a massive amount of rust!!
I need to take mine off for rust maintenance.

Maybe appliance white would blend alright...I would like to see a log bumper on it :)

Haha, with all this info and practice from doing the bumper, the boards will be REAL soon...I honestly almost pulled them off this morning no joke :)

BANG!

I don't see a problem as long as it gets thoroughly blown out after using it to sand. I wouldn't use mine for that, but that's mainly for cross-contamination from having sanding dust fall onto the buffing surface later. I don't see why you can't, since Megs sells pads for them though.

I would be a little paranoid about sanding dust too, but for Brian his bumper would be a good excuse to buy one :)

Heres the DA I dug up. Not sure about the condition since it hasn't been used in forever. Its a Ingersoll Rand 310, an oldie that was made in Japan. It does 12,000 rpm at 90 psi.
Heres a link for the new one that does 10k:http://www.menintools.com/airtool/ir310.html

My buddy has a huge one in his garage I could use...ill buy a vbigger one this year sometime

I just put a few drops of pneumatic oil in and fired her up. The trigger is not working for turning it on and off, but the air adjustment on the side works fine, so no big deal. The pad is not in very good condition and should be replaced.

So does that mean its always on?

Do you have PayPal man?

No, you can turn the knob on the side to control the speed from 0 to 12k rpm. If you don't want to do that, just pop the hose off .
I have paypal. PM me.

Umm next time, leave the cordless grinder inside and just tackle it with sand paper and a little elbow grease.. Not sure if the grinder cut any grooves in the metal but a few seconds in any spot constantly will cut grooves.. might wanna go over it with your finger and feel for any grooves/scrapes/etc in the bumper before painting.. You may need to throw some thin body filler on it before painting.. Don't forget to prime it too..

I know its not the right thing to use, but its all I have for now, and its doing a damn good job. Im not doing it hard enough to cause grooves, and I fully plan on sanding it all the way down. This rust is WAY to thick for elbow grease and sandpaper. I would pay 300$ to have it professionally done before I tried with sandpaper.

Is it surface rust or can you grab a punch/screwdriver/awl and push it thru the bumper? If you can push it thru, chances are the metal is beyond repair..

Nooo, its surface, just THICK surface. Nothing at all that can be pushed through. There are a couple pin sized holes though that ive noticed.

How about this....Blee tried being nice but...if your rust is that shotty and you want to pay that much for bumper repair maybe you should contact LMC truck for a brand spankin new bumper and say screw those new head/ or tail lights.

The headlights are on hold for awhile. (long time actually)

And I never said I wanted to pay that much. I was just saying id pay that before I EVER sanded it by hand.

I sanded my front bumper by hand on my 95, worked on it for days and hours at a time until my hand was numb, rust wasnt nearly as bad, and I still never got all of it.

the right flap wheels are only a couple of dollars each, there is no excuse when the right tool is the same price as the wrong one.

If you haven't fixed the tranny that keeps wanting to crap out on you maybe just spray the crap out of that shotty bumper so that it appears descent and then save up for a rebuilt trans. Dependability before appearance I always say.
