I finally went out today and removed those unsightly door moldings. I'd been planning on doing this for a while, but I was afraid of what I might find underneath  I just sucked it up today and did it. Here is a pic with the moldings:

And after...

Took me about 2 hours, All I used was some fishing line to get up under a corner of the molding, then I just slowly pulled it off. Then I was left with some VERY TOUGH 3M double sided tape. I heated that up with a hairdryer and just rubbed it off with my fingers. There really isn't a better way to do it. Needless to say I have lots of blisters, but it was worth it in the end. :D

GRRRRR.

looks good hartman. ive been thinking about doing that for a long time, but its just not at the top of my list ;)

Yeah, I hate it but there's nothing I can do about it except bust out all my windows and get "regular" glass. Thanks Ford.

This may sound stupid...but privacy glass...is that where the tint is inside the window? I think mine is like that and it sucks....My black XLT has some almost amber colored tint. I took it to a shop to have them try and match the tint and they said that they did the best they could. It looks good at night but during the day my front windows look darker like yours.

I had the same problem with my X when it came to tinting the front side windows. I didnt want them to be dark when the ones toward the back of the truck looked so reflective. My solution was to use 35% mirrored tint. It matches almost perfect. Not quite as dark as as 5 or 20%, but better looking.

From what I understand the stuff that makes the windows mirror-like is actually inside the glass. So, there's nothing you can do about it except try to match the front windows with the back, which wouldn't be a bad idea for some people.

I can't see the pictures :-(

That turned out pretty good, i was suprised that 3m tape was all that was holding it on.

Privacy glass, not sure what is up with that, buy my 97 came with tinted windows in the rear from and factory and it doesn't look like you guys's at all, wonder why?? I just took it and got my front 2 tinted at 20% and it matches perfect.

Happy trails!!

Sweet X Jot!:D

hey that looks smooth, you know, I didn't read the whole thread cos its long and I'm lazy :D but perhaps black front and rear bumpers would clean it up?

Hartman are you thinking bout painting the bumpers? If you do then tell me how well it goes cuz i have been wanting to do the same. Just not brave enough to. (That or maybe its the money thing.)

Jot:

I've never been a fan of grey Explorers but the way you have yours looks amazing. I don't know if it's the combination with the rims and lift or what, but that is a great looking ride.

Yes I plan on painting them hopefully sometime this spring. They stick out like a sore thumb, I know. I'm gonna try to make them semi-gloss too. :D
