What is the best intake for a 1997 Ford Explorer V8 5.0L 2wd? I want to have more horse power and better acceleration being that i just got bigger tires. What is the cheapest? what is the best as for power adding? Thanks

Mac, Airmax..
You could mod a Volant to work if you wanted..
HEADERS will give you a lot of power, your stock manifolds are way too restrictive..

are those easy to replace though? or would i have to pull out the whole engine? And how much do those usually cost? Thanks

Woah woah...

Very easy to replace.. you can do it all with a screw driver and a socket wrench in less than a half an hour.

$100-$300
KKM= 100+
MAC=169
AirMax= uh.. idk.. more than the mac..

o no i know the intake is easy to replace. sorry i should have been more specific. i was talking about the headers and how u said the stock manifolds are way to restrictive. are those easy to replace. :)

It probably would be a lot easier to install them if you pulled the engine.. but I think everyone here on the board has done it without pulling it.

Keep in mind with the headers that those bolts have been heated and cooled many a time, they really aren't going to want to come out. Exhaust work is always overly difficult because it's heated and cooled so many times, almost like welded together. The torque monster headers are $400+ I think, not sure though.

Is this from personal experience?

Not for the timid, but it is a driveway job.

What are you doing? You have no idea, whatsoever, of how to install these headers. You haven't even seen a set-
Please answer from experience

I haven't EVER heard of ANYBODY pulling an engine to install Torquemonster headers.

and, you should know this-
pulling a v8 out of an explorer is one of the most difficult things I have ever done. It certainly wouldn't make a header install easier.

ok, now that that is settled-
for the OP
The mac intake-a good flowing exhaust and custom tuning should satisfy your needs-

I would try a Mac intake and exhaust and go from there. The next step would be headers-then the tuning.

Thought exhaust work and intake performance increases were minimal without the headers?

How noticeable are these increases without headers?..

What I'd suggest is not giving advice when you don't know the proper answer. Guessing at an answer is worse than keeping your mouth shut...

Understood.

:popcorn: No idea the answer to TM install...but this thread is crackin me up!

As for intake...I have a KKM clone off ebay. $20 shipped. Cant go wrong with that price
