Betty's "I want to be a mule" progress log thread

You expect this post to have pictures.

No, my brothers, it contains excuses.

Brake issues force this to remain in town at the least, in fact better not drive it at all.
Now I learn from the alignment rack we have loose, just barely but in fact they are loose upper and lower ball joints on the driver side. Parts are ordered.

Humbodt is under a "water conservation act" ordinance. All outside water is odd even by your address, and limited to carrying a bucket to your trees. The local car wash is closed between 9:00 AM and 10:00PM. Since the guy who owns it lives in a town 10 miles awy, it remains closed ---unlss you get lucky. I will try tonight. It irks me though that the larger towns to the north and south of us who also draw from the same river, have no water conservation going on.

So, my droogs, thanks for reading. I will now post pictures and initial comments I have come up with---

Light source side--yes that is a spot of herculiner. If you think it's hard to get off your hootus, just wait till you try to get it off of cement.

I like the look of these tires!! For an AT they look pretty meaty. I also noticed very few wheel weights glued to my wheels---

The daytons I had on, were very worn , one had several weights but was still severely cupped. Feels nice now!!! even at 30MPH I feel a huge difference. I bet the wheel hop was a lot to do with a drop in fuel economy.

The wheels weigh in at 20lb, tires 47 so wheel and tire combo is 67lbs, on a 31" tire. Not too bad!!!

Now the chrome bothers me.

What have we learned?

Dick cepek wheels have lousy clear coat, have plenty of materials and options for your planning, Falken tires seem good, should look the truck over more often, herculiner on hootus=bad but on driveway =not so bad.

Very cool, I like those and they look great on the truck.

Man, i never liked the look of the DC1's, until i saw them powdercoated. those turned out great Jon

Wow... What a nice job Jon. A lot of work but it sure was worth it. I've never liked those wheels but yours look great!

That's sort of an "anthracite" look??? I love it, but I think it may be a smidge too dark for my wheels. The color I have in mind at the moment is in your first post of the "bright silver" that you did since it looks somewhat like a "brushed" finish.

When you say the "chrome" is bothering you, do you mean on the grille? If so, might be able to do a few coats of "nighshades" to darken it and match the wheels better?

Good job Jon. Those look wayyy better. I love the color/clear you chose.

Thanks for liking the wheels. I just wanted to be different, without screwing them up.

Rockauto ----grrrrr

Friday I ordered brake parts--power stop rotors, pads, ( i have e brake shoes and hardware here on hand)

Yesterday I ordered upper control arm and ball joint.

Today, I recieve rear rotors and upper control arm. Brake pads are coming by usps from new york. Received at new york facility today.

How you can be so fast and so slow at the same time is something for science to solve I guess.

Don't get me wrong, love rockauto, but where do you get the stones to charge $30 FOR 2 BOLTS!!!!! You know about that one Jon.

Refresh my memory?

When it has to be there fast....Amazon Prime is where it's at. :)

I gave up counting on fast delivery from Rockauto long ago. I do use them when time is not a factor. ;)

Ditto, Amazon Prime has enough shipping sources to make most anywhere in two days at no cost, and a few more for next day. See where they ship from to you, and maybe that's a good way next time.

on the other hand, Amazon adds sales tax. :thumbdwn:

Normally its only state tax and not in all states. Even with the tax, the Prime shipping makes it the same price as RockAuto most times.. Especially if you compare 2 day shipping/overnight shipping between rockauto and amazon.

If I need it soon I use Amazon, if I'm in no hurry its RockAuto.

The sales tax hasn't begun yet in all states, I think that's a year away nationally.

Amazon has a brick and mortar building in Kansas. I have always been charged sales tax at Amazon.
