Blizzard my 94 Explorer Build

So repair list includes:
tail light
tail light bulb
tail light harness

I believe my spare explorer has extras of these if you can make it down to the tempe area.

How did you have the wrong lug nuts?

Well the guy whom sold me this explorer has a buddy right around the corner that had the tail light and tail light harness. I have the bulbs so we might just go their. He has a rolled first gen so I may see what else I can use from him. He has a 92 4x4 explorer 4dr red with red interior that my buddy whom sold me this one sold him.

The jeep wheels use a special type of lug nuts so when I put my spare on the lug nuts weren't the best fitting. From now on I am going to carry the originals with me in the truck.

I think I am going to build tail light guards because it is ridiculous the price of tail light for this thing.

Well yesterday I visited a junkyard I never knew about and picked up the tail light I needed for $20 with the socket and bulb. Replaced it yesterday. Now all I need to do is get some tires. I am thinking once money permits buy a brand new set of 235 75 R15 BFG TA KOs.

Also next month I have to renew the registration.

Well I decided to throw on the black wheels and tires again just going to get them balanced and hopefully they ride good. Need this to step up and be reliable this month being mom's 97 Expedition went down today.

got them wheels and tires balanced. Rides a lot better, sounds better, and in my opinion looks better. They were way out of balance. Drove her all day and she did great.

However now you can't get in or out on the drivers side rear because my brother pulled it wrong or something and broke the inner handle. So for now you have to have the rear passenger door opened by somebody to get out. Unfortunately I only have a passenger side handle so for now going to deal with it the way it is or possibly fix the passenger rear door.

picked up a drivers side rear handle yesterday for $5 and the guy pulled it for me. Just waiting for a good time to install it.

Well went to take my explorer today and my brother (the other one not the one that broke the handle) goes out to put something in the car and the door rod pops off on the passanger side door handle or so he says but now you can't get in the back of the car. So I have to fix that so I am already ticked off about that I walk out to go drive it and....

Their is a damn screw in my tire and it looks like somebody screwed it into the tire on purpose. Damn it! so put my spare on and drive it around then mama drives it home since I rode on the bike with my dad and....

The truck starts making a boiling noise. I think my mom pushed the truck a bit to hard (I know my brother after mom made a turn wrong almost got it stuck in the yard on the dirt and he was spinning tires so that was part of the reason) and it got to warm so she parked it and I got home and I checked it out and it looks a ok.

Tomorrow dad is going somewhere with my youngest brother (the one that popped the rod off the door handle) and my little sister and mom and they are going to get the tire fixed. Hopefully I don't have to go nowhere as I am still dealing with the expedition.
Trav

ok so got the tire and wheel back on yesterday.

My brother then proceeded to taking the door panels off to fix the door handles while me and my dad worked on my mom's 97 expedition.
He then showed us what was wrong:
passenger door handle inside gear is stripped and broken from idiotic grabbing. I would have fixed it with the one I have however somebody broke that one too!
passenger and driver outer door handles are in great shape however they have a small plastic clip deal that goes onto them and both got broken. Got to get that part along with passenger door handle.
Driver's door handle inner just needed replaced which my brother did so I have at least one door that works from inside in the rear.

So right now my explorer has both rear door panels removed waiting for me to get those parts.

I wish the extra doors off the bronco 2, ranger, or my fseries trucks would have the same parts.

The good news is whomever was in their before appears to have done a professional like job minus forgetting to do one simple thing.

I'm looking for some red interior pieces, carpet and red cargo cover mainly.

I had red carpet in my parts truck, but it smelled really bad of animal piss, so I tossed it.

I know for a fact the carpet in his parts truck is shot because of the fact that all the windows are broken out and it has a rats nest in the back. The other part if I ever get over their I will let you know what it looks like. I haven't been over their as a guy is parting out a 95 explorer and he so far wants decent prices. I have to go back to him and get those parts I listed above plus a few other things.
Trav

ok so I went back for the inner handle and those plastic pieces on that explorer and it turns out he is parting out a 94 not a 95 (Brother believes it is a 95 but we all know a 95 is a second gen) plus it is a truck I had seen on craigslist before that I had though of buying for parts.
Anyways the handle got broken somehow and nobody knows how on the trip home. The plastic pieces we couldn't remove without breaking them so we just left them be. Checked out the drivers door on that truck and it was bailing wired which frankly I think I am going to do so I don't have to deal with the plastic breaking since truthfully it is a very poor design.

I also used her around the yard to help me get my engine close to the house so I can start working on it for my F150. I like the way this thing can get around the yard even though it isn't as good as the B2.

Also if plans go right this guy wants to sell most of the truck as a whole and it has a lot of parts I can use and I can just park it in the backyard and take the parts off that I need. So around the first I plan on going to buy the whole explorer off him and bring it home. It has some nice Weld racing wheels that are similar to the stock wheels wrapped in 235 75 R15 BFG KO tires with 30% tread that I think I am going to throw on here, the sun visors are in great shape and gray so probably will put those in here, has power seats so I might think about installing them. Then a lot of it I will end up using on the 96/92 mutt dog ranger project (engine in the explorer runs), maybe use some stuff for custom modding on my F150 and the Bronco 2 also. This all depends as we are also going to be getting an F250 4x4 for mama soon for $200 that needs a little bit of body work (most is included) and an engine rebuild (351W).

If you hadn't looked at your mom's expedition yet, I would bet money it is the intake that cracked. If it was caught in time you have avoided the head gasket job. And it being a camshaft on each head makes for an interesting job.

Point is if it needs more than the intake job and Y'all want to keep it, find a low mileage engine and swap in.

My mom had a 97 thunderbird and this happened to her. My dad did the head gaskets and one cam was barely off and it smashed the number 3 piston, resulting in an engine swap.

Naw we believe we found the problem dad is buying the part right now. EGR Vacuum Solenoid. I hope it isn't the problem you stated above. I don't see any signs of that.
Trav

Naw explorer (this one) (don't worry my dad gets them confused too) had gotten hot because my mom pushed it to hard while towing (I don't blame her this isn't as strong as her expedition 4.6L)

Her 97 expedition 4.6L is having a misfire, lack of power, hesitation (from a complete stop to floored I only go 5 mph then all of a sudden it just takes off), runs rough, and egr vacuum solenoid making noises (like it is trying to suck but it is clogged).
I tried swapping the coil packs, new fuel filter, and new plugs and it only helped a bit. Fuel pump is good. Codes show Cyl 3 and Cyl 8 mis fire and egr vacuum pressure high or low (which has been their for a while).
Dad got a new one so we are going to try the EGR Vacuum solenoid as it shows all those sympthoms when they go bad.
If that doesn't fix it just going to keep trying. She has 186K miles on her she burns oil but I paid $2100 for her which is cheap for this truck in my area and she is extremely clean minus her small quirks which I expected for a high mileage truck that the previous owners son beat the livid crap out of off roading it.

The truck starts making a boiling noise.
Trav
Check your radiator cap. That noise is a possible sign that the cap is not holding pressure like its supposed to.

At 244K on the whole thing and 144K on the engine (ya I already put 2K miles on the explorer) I wouldn't doubt the rad cap is bad. I will buy a new one on pay day or try and take the one off the parts explorer when I buy it.

Well the explorer has a new sister in the driveway!
Mama traded the 97 Expedition in on a 04 GMC Envoy EUX 4x4 5.3L V8. Sits just as high as the explorer.

Ya that equals 2 GMs, 8 fords (but possibly a parts explorer, an 90s f250, and a mustang on the way), and 2 Harleys.
That also makes 4 white vehicles, 1 green, 2 blue, 2 reds, and 2 custom paints (Harleys).

The car scares me a bit since it has twice if not three time as many electronics as my 02 F250 which is a lariat custom ordered with cloth seats and almost every other option.

Ever since I brought home the Explorer the Bronco 2 has been acting up so the bronco 2 might get jealous.
Good thing for me is my 02 F250 isn't the jealous type. We rarely drive our 02 F250 as it is our good truck (yes the F250 is in better shape then the new addition to the family) LOL.

I also think this new addition will give me more respect for my 94 Explorer with only so much electronics and even more of a respect for my 88 F150 which only electronics is the Fuel injection as the trans is vacuum operated, and manual everything else! Haha.
