That's the head that was cracked. All those pictures are of the same head. The other one is near completed, they just need to stick the new valves/guides in and it should be done. It's getting hazy whether or not it was cracked before or after they got it. He called me after it was cleaned and he had begun machine work on it when he noticed it. He didn't noticed it upon original inspection though. He's a real honest guy so I might just suck it up...

So I said I'd track down an additional used head, and they're just going to do the work from there. They are doing a ton of work for me for next to nothing, no thanks to a few insides I found.. So I'm not going to complain too much about going and picking up a used one.

I'm going to spend a few minutes Craigslisting to see if I can't get a good deal on one.

That sucks, Did it crack when they were going through the heads? How much is Scrap metal going for these days?

I don't know, I didn't notice it when I originally took them out, but that's not to say it wasn't there. I was thinkin about taking it down to the metal yard, as I also have a few other parts I need to get rid of, like some exhaust pipe and a front diff/case.

I put an add up on craigslist for another head. Alabama heads are $211 each excluding shipping. If anyone knows a set floating around the forums do PM me! Knowing the guy thats doing the work for me.. he'll end up reimbursing me for it.

I have 4 cracked heads in the shed. I know some of them are "Fixable" but I don't know which is which.. I don't think shipping would be worth it though...

Also, last time I checked, scrap steel (cars etc) was going for "around" $150 per ton. Thats at least around here when we scrapped what was left of that '91 red explorer sport a couple months ago.

That's one thing I didn't even think about asking him.. if this type of crack were fixable..

Also something else to think about,every.020 or 3cc they shave off will increase you .50 in compression,3cc=9.5:1 compression and its cheap and help that cam alot;) thats how i got 10.6:1

Waaay a head of you brother. That's referred to as deck height correct?
muahahaha!! :D

btw - thanks for the link! You know how to find the sweet deals!

Bahhaha i think i might post to many secrets on here,to many va people now!!;)

Here's a tough one for you..

Do you (or anyone else) know how many cc's are in the stock combustion chamber (in the head), also, how many cc's the dish in the stock 95tm piston is?

Also, does the piston, on the stock crankshaft, go above the deck of the block at all? (into the head)

Copy from my post
1gen pistons
-17.5cc
95tm 90tm (my 95tm)
48cc 60cc 45cc
stroke
3.307
my bore ________ stock bore (3.950)
3.971 (mines .02 over)
felpro headgasket
.050 compressed is around .035 to .040
The piston come flush

Dont know or dont have the 95 pistons cc are.hah im at the bar i have them at home

oh your good.. I spent about 30mins on google / RPS and couldn't find crap..

If you wouldn't mind, let me know if you have the specs on those pistons?

Haha i spend days and didnt find anything.if you search my threads there is crazy info that has never been posted.i took weeks measuring and months trying different tricks,i went way back and talked to some old heads about it,no names;) i think they are -12ish or like -11.8

Dang.. I think I've read just about every one of your threads.. I've got some bookmarked, I'll get back to reading..

Some things i might have deleted ;) just to make sure they know to mil the spring seat and the valve seal and guide for those springs?

One more thing, the higher you go in compression them more important the polishing of the head combustion chamber is!

Updates?? Ready to race yet??!! :)

Bought it on friday I guess after the place closed, didn't hear anything this weekend and haven't heard anything today so.. we'll see.. might be forever till I get this thing done now ARGH!!
