Bronco was tubed and painted!

Here's what's left after I tubed the back and repainted it. The gate needs expanded steel and some LED tail lights. The paint was changed because I got sick of the boring primer gray. I think the new paint is more uniform.

I still need to add straps to hold the gate fairly level like a pickup bed gate. I definately made it strong enough to make into a seat for people to sit on when hangin around and then add some pins to hold the gate closed. With the fenders hacked, I can certainly clear a good bit more tire. These TSL's measure about 34in and I know I can toss the 36's I have on the truck with no problem. Come later in the winter, I'm going to do something similar to the front.

Yup, once I pay down some bills, the front will probably keep part of the fenders. It will sorta be like a jeep that's had the front fenders trimmed like alot of guys are doing now a days. I will keep the stock headlights too. I'm also going to tube in under the hood and the core support. I need to get more airflow into the engine compartment and this will be step one. In addition to this, I have about a 7lb tank I made for a p/s fluid tank because I've got the fluid running the ps and brakes.

All the work was done by me. I actually used sch 40 pipe. I didn't feel that it was necessary to dump tons of money into this. It was partially a cosmetic job because my one fender was torn off. As for my favorite color, lets wait till next spring and see what the next color is...

Sch40 - I read a debate on PBB that stated that its actually stronger than DOM becasue most DOM used in cages and stuff is typically not as thick but has a greater tolerance dimensionally.

But either way, great job !

No doubt it's thick walled... Took alot to cut, using the sawzall, band saw or grinder. Before I do the front, I might buy a cutoff saw... I'm happy with the results. Hardest part will be hacking into the cage, then the floor to lower the seats more...

Looks good.

Sch40 is not stronger than the typically used .120 wall DOM, but it is equal to .120 HREW and is a bit more "ding resistant" than HREW. It makes darn good bumpers, sliders, and whatnot. Makes a good cage too... if the cage design is adequate for .120 HREW then it is also adequate for sch40.

Bronco looks great.......sch 40 pipe is what my bumpers are made of, and havent had any problems with it.

Um, I was going to do that, but I kinda forgot. About 2in below the joint by the drivers, is a tie into the cage so it's pretty strong up there. Maybe later I'll still add it. I dunno what hrew is going for but the sch 40 is 12 bucks for 10ft of 1in which is what I used for everything except the bumper which is 2in sch 40 which was 35 bucks for 10 feet. I think it's been fairly economical so far. Still gotta get that expanded steel, reverse lights and some LED brake lights back there.
