The code is for a leak in the EVAP system. I would recommend visiting a local shop for service. They can be EXTREMELY hard to find! Good luck!

A common problem that brings this code is a leaking gas cap. Replacing that may fix the problem. Run a search for P0455 if a new cap doesn't fix the problem. Some X's have a "Check gas cap" light. I believe if you have one and it isn't on then the cap is fine.

I replied in your other thread.

I just had a 0455, looked a saw the gas cap seal looked pretty old so replaced it.( the cap)
Code was cleared....4 days.
The code is back. Is there anywhere/anything else i should look before i have it looked at?

Visually inspect all the lines. They run from the tank all the way to the engine. Usually black in color (shiny)

Is there a speciffic place where they start from the tank? Are they visible the entire way?

I do not know. Most of the time they are visible about 80% - some parts hiding behind cross members and such. They are usually ran along the same rail your fuel lines are ran. I tried to find a picture of a line or hose, but you should be able to tell the difference from an EVAP line and Fuel/Brake line

Another real easy check, and maybe likely since it is near tire area, and under the battery ( drip corrosion ) is the vent purge solenoid valve thingy in the front of front driver side wheel well. it has a green elbow--easy to see.
Check it and the lines for cracks--holes

I remember a post where a member went thru 2 of them, before he found the battery tray was dripping on it, made a hidden hole----

A Ford dealer read the same code and said it was the gas cap.
Cost $89.99 for the diagnostic and $15 for the cap. They cleared the code and I had no problem for 3 days then the check engine light came back on. Not wanting to spend another $90 I bought a OBDII code reader online for ~$50 and checked the code myself. I got the same P0455. I started at the front of the truck at the vapor canister and viola! found that I had a broken vapor tube line. I cleared the code so the dash light would go off and I am picking up the vapor tube today.

I had the same problem after my 96 was hit in the front left corner, after i got the truck back from the dealer the light came back within 4 days, took it back and said it was my gas cap, not believing it i replaced it and the code came back, I did some searching and found my fuel vapor management valve was cracked around the clips, it is kinda a pain to get to, it is under your batery, remove your battery and tray then you will see it, it has two or three vacuum lines to it and to bolts securing it, 5/16 i believe, remove it and inspect it, it could have also poped open all it is , is a little diaphragm with a spring and an o ring, if it is bad it will cost you around 60 bucks. hope this helps, also check all you lines from the gas tank up the drivers side frame rail to the inder hood compartment.

duplicate of above message computer error.

Interesting as mine cleared itself for a while, but now came back on.
Where is the vapor canister?

I called a Ford dealer and they told me the vapor canister is actually in the back of the truck. I couldn't see under the battery tray and just assumed it was there. My vapor tube actually connects to the fuel vapor management valve under the battery tray.

Sorry about the confusion.

did you check the vapor management valve as i suggested?
