Why kep the 8.8? If you have the 9", you need to regear anyways, and disk brakes for the 9" are about $100 why not just upgrade instead of having to buy spacers for the 8.8

is this the one that was on ebay? I was looking at one kinda like it the other day? GOOD luck and im sure it will be sweet.

Ok here come the ?’s

1. What size coilovers do I need.
2. Hiemed or not, if so what size?
3. 3 or 4 link rear?
4. What size tubing for cage?
5. 9” or 8.8
6. Doubler or Atlas 2
7. Fuel cell
8. What winch, I saw the new Warn with winch and air in one unit.

So what do you guys think…..

Let the feedback begin!

My opinion:

1. If I were to buy by C/O's again i'd buy 2.0" dia. instead of the 2.5" dia. because my tires rub on them at full stuff. I'm currently angling in the top mounts so that they don't rub...hopefully. This probably won't be an issue since you are going full width but it's something to keep in mind. By the way my C/O's are 14" travel as well as Jefe's, I really don't see the need for anything longer.

2. I won't say there is one joint better than the other because it's a matter of opinion but i'd go with a joint with at least a 1" or 1.25" shank.

3. You're in for a lot of work on this one, relocate gas tank, figuring out link angles and not to mention the cost of materials to get it done. Personally I'd stick with leafs...for now.

4. I've seen a few cages with 1.5" and some with 1.75" and either size seems too small or too big for my taste. I think 1 5/8" is a good comprimise.

5. 8.8 is a fine axle but if you got the 9", i'd rather sink money into beefing that up. Plus it's the width you need already. I'd step up to 35 spline stuff and be done with it but that's just me.
Only drawback to the 9" is the low pinion angle.

6. Both have it's advantages and disadvantages, it depends what kind of terrain you plan on tackling.

7. Might be tricky to pass smog but i've seen it done. If this is going to be a trail only truck then no worries.

8. I'm still in no hurry to buy a winch because i'd rather put money into other mods first but that new Warn looks like a pretty slick unit.

Is this a money is no object kind of build or are you on a budget?
If you are on a budget, i'd skip the winch and T-case upgrade until later.

1. Seems like 14" works well for alot of people.
2. When I link mine I am using 2.5" currie johny joints with the 1.25" shanks. Pretty beefy.
3. Do a 3 link with a panhard. Look at www.trail-gear.com and see how they do there rear link setup do something like that.
4. When I cage mine I will probably use 1.5" .134 wall. The smaller siz will make it fit better and the thicker wall will make it stronger.
5. The 9" wont spin a housing like an 8.8 will. If you plan on going high pinion. Check out www.truehi9.com Much beefier then the currie unit.
6. If you have 7" between the gastank and the tcase a doubler would fit. I like my doubler alot. An atlas would be sweet but it also cost 4 times as much.
7. Id do my best to keep the truck as close to street legal as possible. Lots f trails start in one area and finish far from the trailers. Being street legal is a huge advantage. Even in truckhaven I have used the highway many times to get back to camp.
8. That new warn one is huge. I would get like a 9000lb one and call it good. I have the warn XP I still need to finis wiring it before I can use it.

Also what kind of shape is the drivers door in? My dad could use one for his 75 f250. Maybe some trim pieces as well if they are good. Also your spare dana 44 you have I bet you could get a nice tiki out of rangerX for it. :D

Well I just got back to CA from UT. I was on the phone the whole way back. I called Robbie at Currie I’m dropping off both 44s and the 9” for prepping, lockers, gears and gusseting in the morning.

Damn dude, you're not phucin around!!

Well i didnt want to wait, and since we were driving back from UT, what the hell a stop in LA wont hurt.

So this should be completed by this weekend right?:p:

Currie does good work, I had them install my locker and gears in my 8.8.
They've got some nice forged body johnny joints, you should check em out when you drop off your axles.

Oh and i need advice on gears i want to ru 35- 37's what size do you guys think i should use. I already decided on ARB air lockers.

Yeah i have heard nothing but good stuff on Currie Ent. When i meet with Robbie tommarow I'l ask him about them thanks.

5.13's if you go 37's...4.88's if you go with 35's. I ran 4.56's with 35's and it wasn't bad but 4.88's would be better.

And since you're gonna be down there, i'd recommend a visit to McKenzies off road to check out some coilovers. They are a desert race/pre-runner store with all kinds of goodies. Probably a 10 min drive from Currie on Orangethorpe and the 57 fwy. Don't remember the cross street though. There's also Kartek in Corona if you feel like venturing that far...doesn't seem like you mind traveling at all:p: Same kinda store as McKenzies but bigger.

If its a DD i would use 4.88 with a 36-37" tire. If its not a DD 5.13 all the way....
Im happy with my 4.88s and my 36s
