Concerned about rusting brake line, with pics

I was under my 99 XLT the other day and noticed the brake line above the rear diff starting to rust.

Is this a known problem and is it easy to repair? Also if the line does break, will the truck be able to still stop? I thought I read that if there is a loss of pressure in one of the lines, the brake system is designed to still stop the car.

Nope, well idk about your year, but I was 60 miles away from my house, and my rear line looked just like that, and sprouted a hole.

Brakes completely lost power, cus there was no fluid, glad I was still in my dads neighborhood, once that fluid was gone the pedal just goes to the floor, and the fluid comes out FAST! Id try to replace it, lines are pretty cheap at murrays

You just by a line for it and replace it where the line joins a block and splits to each wheel. My father inlaw had the same issue. I actually pinched on side that was leaking and folded it a few times. he was able to drive home 70 miles with no issues. In fact he left it like that a few months till he could get it repaired.

You can by the steel brake line already specified for your vehicle and it will have the bends or buy a straight line and a tubing bender. Its not hard to do at all. The tubing bender has the instructions on how to flare the ends and bend the brake line.

Yeah, I wasnt about to pay 4$ a mile plus hookup at 61 miles....

What we did, was at the master cyliner cut the line for the rear to about 5", and just crimped it and wrapped it around eachother, and i drove her home like that just fine, it was my right rear that blew a hole.

Id just buy the straight line, you can literally bend it with your hand, then just screw it in, its obviously not going to be as tight to the differential and everything, but same difference. I just bought a 95 and im gonna change all lines.

Does Ford use inverted flare, or metric bubble fittings on these brake lines?
