darting? as in bump steer?

What camber shims do you have now?
The ones pictured look nice but are you sure thats a 2.75 degree correction even on the 4x4's? Only reason I ask is because the 2.75 degree shims from Moog have almost no material left on the one side (when turned all the way to 2.75 correction)

In the pictures your camber doesnt look far off?

bumper is *****in, I love your truck... its like you had a plan and the execution of the plan is coming along really well! Nice work!

Yes Darting. As in driving straight then all of a sudden it wanders over to one side. Correcting results in over correction. Sometimes you can feel it twitch back and forth and your not touching the wheel. Most times it twitches to the passenger side first.

I got to measuring the caster a few weeks ago. Drivers side lower is roughly .68 forward of the upper. that translates to about 5° positive caster. The passenger side is roughly .94 forward which is about 8° positive. That makes 3° cross caster. I think that is too much. Now If I have a 1/2° bushing set to full negative camber/0 caster on the drivers side and a 1° positive camber/0 caster on the passenger side. I've now got 3° of cross caster. Should be able to do it with these new bushings.

I'll dump about 1/4° of camber so that the top of the tires are in more than the lower.

Here is some dry pavement video. You can see the tires are going positive camber.

Here is some gravel and they still go Positive.

I figure if I can add 2 1/2° caster to the 5° and remove 1/2° from the 8° I should be about right.

Once out in the sun I noticed a few spots I missed with the paint.

Trying to knock off some of these damned oil leaks. I was working on a bracket to mount up a real Saginaw PS pump but for some reason the 2 that I tried, Don't pump. The only thing I can think of is that they are being spun backwards. One was from an 80's Econoline and the other was a GM car pump.
The only one I didn't/haven't tried is a Dodge version. From what I can see from my buddies V8 Dakota is that they spin the same direction. My engine bay looks worse than the Exxon Valdez. Enough oil everywhere that I could prolly fill one of the tanks.

Anyway I've abandoned the Saginaw pump (For now) and installed the spare Ford whinney pump that isn't leaking through every seal. I've also plumbed in a PS cooler from an old Trans cooler.

Now to find out why/where my trans is leaking.

sweetness, truck looks so nice, totally custom 1 off BII unlike any other. Very nicely done, the bumper is sick!

A buddy of mine is wrecking an 88 Ranger next week. So I'll be getting some body panels to cut up. I cringed when I cut up my front fenders. They were nearly brand new replacements with just minor surface rust.

So now I'll have another set to play with and trim. I may cut a large protion of the rear bed sides and possibly make myself some extension skins to cover up the tire.;)

Messing around

Better look at where the lower hoop is for the bumper. Yes it's welded to the old sway bar brackets.

Couple of new updates.

I reinstalled the quad shocks up front and put on my modified X2 superrunner linkage.

I've changed out the leaky PS pump and plumbed in a cooler. Changed out the locked up AC/OBA setup with a working compressor.

Finally got my donar truck yesterday for the 4.10 gears. Now I just need to get the ranger 8.8 so that I can stuff the 4.10's and locker in there.

The front D35 (4.10) I'll be running open for now, as I think the locker is fawked. Makes a nice clanking racheting sound when under load.

pics of the modded linkage please :D

So I got the fronts bulked up and started to trim them to shape. I cut too much on the Drivers side and need to add to build it back up. I'll use the spray foam for that. So here they are taking shape.
