Since there have been a lot of straight axle conversions done now I was just wondering what the average cost people think it takes to do one????
There is also the option of doing a leaf spring front end like Robby has done but I can't get a hold of him to see how he likes it........

Yes I know you can spend as much as you want and go as fancy as Rick's or more, but I'm just talking a basic F150/Bronco type swap???
I would really like to do one on "THEEEEE PURPLE" Explorer but we have spent any extra money we have on the Sami but now that its almost finished I've started thinking of the Explorer again. I'm needing new tires & would like a front locker so this would be a good time......
What is everyones thoughts?

Low budget + functional = RockRanger. Check his thread about his leaf-sprung Waggy front axle. I've seen it wheel, works great.

I'm not finished with mine but all i have left to buy is tires, axle rebuild parts (including brakes), shocks, and misc. I've so far spent 725 bucks total :) I am estimating around 2k when all is finished...but that's just a somewhat edjumkated guess ;)

Do you have a link, I can't find it.

I'm not sure what mine cost since Felix did it, but I think it was around $2,200 or so after all said and done (not including locker, wheels and tires). With the wristed arm, I love the way it performs.

I agree with RangerX though about a budget front end like RockRanger's though.

I had probably about 3000 give or take in my front axle including the axle, suspention, locker, gears, steering. I added coilovers last year so probably about 4500 now. There is a company here in CO that sells the same kit I installed for around 1500. It is basicly a modified Rubicon Express TJ long arm kit. It uses what ever axle you want to use ie: 44, 60, 30 whatever, very stout.

The thing is I have a front Dana44 out of a Waggy setting at my dad's shop & I figure I could use Spidertrax wheel spacers in the rear. That way I wouldn't have to get new gears and locker in the rear, just in the front.

Clint, what is the name of that company you are talking about??????
