Will do, I'm usually not a fan of "fix-in-a-can" type things but I'll give it a shot after the diffs are done, I wanna start driving it a lot more, poor thing only gets driven maybe once a month at the most
Also check the steel lines and make sure there isn't any kinks or bends in them also do you have the aux cooler?

This is gonna sound pretty stupid, I'm not 100% I haven't spent much time looking around at the transmission, there is a small radiator (not the A/C condenser, maybe an evaporator? But it looks too small to be) kind of in front of the front diff but I haven't looked what the lines run to.

Thats your power steering cooler there should be a smaller one in the grill it has 2 rubber lines that go to 2 steel lines

Alright, give me a bit to hunt for this thing, the dude I bought the car from did a lot of work on the cooling.

heres where it is on my sohc. sorry for bad pictures. the last one is a pic of what youre lookin for (its the smaller one) this is if youve got the external cooler

Buy floating what do you mean by floating ??
mine floats like that in between gears but it's just the torque converter unlocking and the PCM looking for the best place to shift it's 1 of the original computer control transmissions remember that

If you’ve never had the trans rebuilt or valve body work done, it very well could be the separator plate gasket. They blow out.

There’s an updated plate with bonded gasket you can buy.

In my case it's not the valve body
I believe it's just the way it is but if he has problem there should be evidence on a scanner and or in the pan right
Forscan has a ....slippage pid.... Among all the trans pids
A little research on how to read these pids will help a lot to

Lube guard is good stuff it’s not just a fix it in a can, it Re conditions your fluid

Ditto, I have used Lubegard for ages, since about 1990. It's great to improve the ATF fluid always, and fluids have improved since then. I try to use it when I have it or think to get some. I have their additive on hand for the power steering fluid, I have used that a lot for my work vehicles.

I've driven around while monitoring everything with forscan and nothing has popped up, I mean it goes to shift, revs to like 5K and then slams into gear

Ooh, you need to stop driving it now if it's slamming into gear and flying to high rpm while in gear(slipping or neutral). That will eat the clutches really fast.

If you can replace the things which are causing the shifting issues, that could save a rebuild cost. But knowing which part or components is required, that's the guessing everyone is doing. That's why I suggested doing everything possible besides the full R&R rebuild. If the damage is already done, then replacing those things now should not add to the cost at all(rebuilder should not charge you for replacing brand new parts you tell them just went in(like solenoids and accumulators($150ish)). No shop is likely to do the VB kits, or any Sonnax VB component kits, or the set screws into the case passageways. All of those things help with shifting and long term life, but trans shops are all about profit and liability.

I did not realize it was slaming into gear
Only on occasion, usually I let off the gas when I see the RPMs go up so it isn't as violent. And this only happens once it's warmed up, and it seems to happen more if I go from drive to park then back to drive again without turning the car off. The gauge I need to check the pressures gets here today and I'll try to check them this weekend.

Seems like a good reason to swap a 5.0 in front of a new, stronger transmission. 4.10 gears to beat grandma through the crosswalk.

Nah I'm good, would if I had the space though, I live in an apartment, you can imagine how happy management is about me working on this thing already every weekend.

Management doesn't take a day off?

Seriously though don't drive it anymore with it slamming in to gear that's really bad on the transmission its basically like revving it up to 6k in neutral and shifting to drive

^^^^the shock on the driveline is a great way to earn a rebuild... especially on a trans like these! its almost like the people who slam their vehicles into drive to do a burnout! (i know that aint the intent, but it aint good for the vehicld)

Yep, or snap the driveshaft or mess up the rear end possibly destroy the transfer case or axels if its 4X4
