Doing Body Lift Today -- Any tips?

Hey 410, whats wrong with the spacer? I have had mine in for over 2 years and quite a few runs and have never had a problem. Are they known to fail?

410 man, your being a huge help.

I hate to be a pain in the ass, but I don't know what I'm looking at there in the picture

I wish you guys were into Gaming PC's -- I could build you one in 30 minutes

I have 3 ps3's and I still play Brood war, does that count?

bottom right of the picture, black cable, thats your column shifter cable.
The little black plastic thing it is cliped into, thats what you will need to re-locate

see the aluminum looking part? thats the steering extension, it has been mounted between the intermediate steering shaft and the steering wheel.
I choose to not run this part and found that my steering shaft is long enough to make the gap without the extension, because I drilled a new hole in the steering shaft on the firewall side, 1.5" down lower
I dont have pics of that right now, but I can get them this weekend!

I simply dont trust more bolts and more adapters on my steering system, plus my extender was slamming directly into my drivers side exhaust manifold, so steering this sucker home SUCKED

The shaft runnig hru the middle of the pic is the steering. The shiny silver piece in the middle is the spacer that comes in the kit.

If you open the hood and look to the drivers side of the engine you will see it coming thru the fire wall and going down towards the front suspension.

Awesome guys - thanks a lot. I think for the most part I'm ready. I get out of work @ 9:30 and I'm gonna dive right in.

I love the look of my X now with the Shackles and TT, looks so much more aggressive, can't wait to see it with 33's.

Hell yeah Brood War. 1996 and counting haha. I'm 64 -4 right now on USEast ;)

wow I was like 460 and 82 on starcraft when brood war came out, but then I didnt log in forever and my account was missing the next time :) I used to play my room mates!

When the heck is SCII coming out?

I love my 96 on 33's, but I would have done a 2" body lift to avoid all the steering issues I had and crank my torsion bars another 1" to clear the tires...

good luck! I am off in 22 minutes, I am going home and tearing into my 98 engine replace project, lets see who gets done first! LOL

Holy crap! I still play Brood war too, LOL. Haven't logged on in a good 6-7 months, but DAMN that game is fun. My PC wont be able to handle SCII when it comes out, so I'll still be in the old trusty BW.

Well after a good 5 hours in my garage, I can't say I accomplished much.

I got the bumpers off, I got the back two body mounts loosened, have the mounts just in front of those exposed, but am having no luck loosening them. I hit them with propane for at least 1-2 minutes still without a budge. I didn't have a 1/2 socket wrench extender, so I was stuck with a 1/4" and non-metric socket.. so I'll get one tomorrow and try with a bigger cheater bar, but things aren't looking too great.

Would you heat the bolt from the interior or under the frame?

If I had to sawzall, would you cut through the block? Or how would you cut it?

It's taking a long time, but I don't mind.. for a 17 year old kid with NO automotive experience I think I'm doing alright. I learned pretty quick that a drop of liquid wrench in the eye isn't too much fun, either.

I'm sure I'll have some more questions for you guys tomorrow, but It's now 4:00 in the morning and my arms can't take anymore haha

Thanks guys

heat the bolts under the frame, that is where the thread locker is,, near the end where it is threaded,,
do not cut throught the block cause than you still have to get the remaining piece of the bolt out of the bottom mount plate,,
make sure when you heat the bottom of the bolts you have some water handy to cool them after they are loosened and watch the fingers on the hot parts,

I'm at another stand still -- this time I got some pictures.

I broke the thread lock on all the mounts with some propane and elbow grease, thats good, didn't back any of them out though.

I started on the Radiator, removed the two screws holding the radiator in the top, lifted it upwards and out of the boots, now it's sort of stuck

There are two hoses which look like the A/C lines or something that also do no look long enough:

This is a top view, looking down onto the "boots" that support the radiator:

Other than the radiator, What parts are these in the kit? I assume the black hose is the gas tank extender:

Please help me out guys, I need this done by Monday night!

The only two lines I see are the hoses for the auxillary transmission cooler. That shouldn't be coming out with the radiator. If you pull the condenser with the radiator though, you will have a/c lines to disconnect.

By the way...you did disconnect the tranny cooler lines at the radiator, right?

I just removed the top bolts and shimmied the radiator out of the mounts, thats all the instructions said to do :(

I could reeealllyy use someone to help me on AIM or something, hell, I'd be willing to send them some money on Paypal.

If I don't get this done by tomorrow afternoon, I have to re-assemble it and just sell the kit, I'm not gonna pay 500 for a shop to do it

Someone let me know please

I'm on the Chant feature if any can help me!

oh man, I was worried about this

Are you working on this by yourself? I vote dont give up!
You CAN do this, it may just take some time, but if you stop now you will have learned nothing

ya i agree dont give up.. it took me a week to finnish my body lift..dont stop now!

Still going -- no shops will take it anyways.

Working on cutting the core mounts, then ready to lift thanks to a few people on Chant

Keep going, one step at a time. You will have it figured out and a new found knowledge of your rig when your finished. You are building memories right now, and will look back on this and smile. Some think this mod is simple, but most who have done it can say different.

Just remember to do one side at a time when installing the pucks. Always leave the body bolts threaded a bit on one side so the body don't slide off and land on its side!

Keep it up man, your getting there.

I don't remember anybody mentioning the gas tank fill tube-
be sure it doesn't get stretched when you do the lift up

have someone watching the ac lines and heater core inlet hoses -raise it up real slowly so nothing get broken

good advice!! we dont want the body sliding off onto the floor, holy moley would that be a mess
and you sure dont want any new leaks! so go slow when lifting and do one side at a time!

Still working. Having an issue with the steering shaft -- it doesn't want to seem to let go. I used some rubber strap pipe "wrenches" and with two guys, didn't budge. Put a small crack in the plastic like Sheath, hope thats not too important.

Once I get that freed, I'm getting ready to jack up the right side and put the spacers in, I'll get pictures up soon
