ok guys i've looked around and everything and from my past i've always been happy with flowmaster exhausts and i haven't seen a kit for my 2001 5.0 explorer so i was thinking about getting their 50 series suv performance muffler dual 2.25 in 3" out and running a 3" tailpipe other than sound will that be a good setup for performance? or am i gonna lose something somewhere that these other catback kits have? also anyone have any idea what i'm lookin at to have a muffler shop bend me a 3" tailpipe?

I got dual chamber 2 flowmasters on my 01 sport and i still have the spare tire underneth my sport.

I wish i got 3 inch tips for mine but i have the 2 1/2 inch tips on mine. I paid 490 bucks for my flowmasters to get professionally installed.

I am using a flowie dual in dual out with 2 1/2 inch pipes. A single 3 inch is my next move. Serious. Dual exhaust is cool at first, but really uneeded.
Plus, it does create some "concerns", not many muffler shops like to do it.

Ask 410fortune his opinion. He is using an e-cam, and single 2 1/2" exit, by expert suggestion BTW.

I would buy this right now if I had the cash
I have another issue to solve first though

what kind of sound are you looking for

i think i will be happy with the sound of the flowmaster my questions were more for performance i dont know if 3" is too big i'm guessing not but i think its what i'll be going with anyways tomorow morning i'm going to advance to order my muffler i think i'll be able to do all of this myself for under 200 with a 3-3.5" stainless tip

I just ditched my Flowmaster catback in favor of the MAC 3" system. The MAC sounds WAY better than the Flowmaster. It has a much throatier, deep sound, much like a Mustang. And fits better than the Flowmaster did too. Don't get me wrong, the MAC is very loud, but sounds absolutely awesome.

The Flowmaster kit that I had used a 50 series big block muffler with 2.5" pipes and sounded like stock but a bit louder.

i'm not looking for real loud this vehicle sees alot of roadtrips one with my family especially this christmas and it would get irritating if it was too loud i'm happy with flowmasters though i had it on my 3.0 ranger

well i got the flowmaster installed and i went with a 2.5" pipe out the rear instead of a 3 cause all the exhaust shops said it would be too hard to make those bends around the axle and the tube would crumble in the corners so i went with the 2.5" and i'm still very happy the flowmaster is louder than i expected but oh boy does it sound nasty :D I also installed my mac intake today and last weekend i installed the phenolic spacer...still working on my egr issues i'm a lil closer to having that all figured out though i'm trying to find the right pipe fitting that i can use to extend it, anyways after the exhaust and intake installed today there is a very noticable increase in power my explorer gets up and goes and sounds like i should be racing someone lol so i'm a happy camper hopefully i wont get any speeding tickets anytime soon lol... i'm so happy yay

scuba, take the EGR pipe to a place that makes hydraulic hoses.
What you need is a female NPT to male NPT (National Pipe Thread) adapter. I can't remember the part #. I should know it off the top of my head since that is my job :D But hey it's the weekend & that's the last thing on my mind.

There are several makers of these. Tompkins Ind., Parker/Dayco, Wetherhead, NRP Jones, Goodyear & others. It should run you around $5-10 since it is a pretty good size adapter.

the problem i've been having is that its like a 5/8" thread pattern... could be the same thread pattern used for gas pipes not sure i'm just having a hard time finding 5/8" pipe fittings

I cheked my adapter catalogs today & they do not make a 5/8 NPT adapter.

Could you extend it where it threads into the EGR instead of the exhaust manifold?

I want to get one of the phenolic spacers as well but not if it is going to be a problem extending the EGR tube.

Extending the egr tube isn't that difficult

Find a piece of tubing that either matches or slides over the egr tube. You should find plenty at a junk yard.

Cut the egr tube above the reference ports, mount it at both ends, then cut a piece of tubing to fit in the void, mark it with permanent marker-take to exhuast shop to have welded ( if you dont have a low amp wire welder)

I fabbed mine out of 2 egr tubes.

Dan, we will get that spacer on there for you---for sure!!
