2000 Explorer XLT
Good morning.

New to the forum. Searched and can't seem to find my issue so I will ask for a little help.

Just purchased a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT . The man I got it from told me there was an issue with the air conditioning. 95% of all air goes to the front windows and makes condensation form so I am constantly have to turn the wipers on and off. Noticed something strange yesterday though. I started the truck and turned on the air conditioning while sitting in the driveway. There were some leaves laying on the hood by the wipers "outside the window". When I turned the air on in the truck, the leaves outside blew up and off the truck. I stepped out there and there is cold air blowing outside? I popped the hood but could not see anything. It looks like it is coming from under the black window vents behind the hood?

Another issue I have been trying to figure out. The truck has key-less entry pad. I found online there is a module and there should be a sticker on it with the key entry number. Most videos I have watched said it would be in the door in back of the truck drivers side where the jack is. It is not there. Saw another video where it said it was under the dash by the drivers seat. Again, not there. Any one have an idea where I might find it.

Apparently this truck was a police vehicle at one time. Is there a possibility they removed the unit

A/C - You may have a vacuum leak. This causes the HVAC controls (which work on vacuum) to direct the air flow to the defrosters by default. The leak will be in the engine compartment somewhere. Don't know why air would be blowing outside the vehicle, other than an obstruction in the HVAC plenum. There is a door that allows the system to draw fresh air in from the right side of the dash. I suppose if that door is open and the air being pushed by the blower motor fan has no where else to go it might blow out under the windshield... ?

Keyless Entry Code - On a 2000 XLT 4 door Explorer, the RAP module will have the sticker on it with the 5 digit code. The RAP module is located in the front part of the jack compartment. It's a tan colored box which is in the forward part of the compartment. The numbers on the sticker are large and easy to read, but seeing the sticker can be a little hard. Use a mirror and a flashlight. If you have the owners manuals, there was originally a white plastic card included with the keyless entry code on it. Worth seeing if it's in there first.

Thanks I will look for it this afternoon. Not quite sure how to find it but now I know what to look for. Thanks

For your door entry code, you didn't look far enough forward in the jack stash area. Grab a flashlight and look toward the front of the truck, about 2 feet in at the front of the wheel well area, will be the box with wiring. The label may be sitting at an angle making it difficult to view the digits but it's there--

Hmmmm let me go back out there. The videos I watched showed it right in plain sight. Back in a few - thanks

It's on the left (driver's side)

I may have to pull that panel off. I looked in there with a light all the way to the front of the wheel well and still can't see anything? I have to get ready to leave for work so I will look at it again tomorrow and see what I can find. Thanks for the info.

It's on the left (driver's side)
Morning Koda2000

Still baffled. I can't seem to locate it. I took some pictures. It is not in the compartment drivers side or passenger side and I looked under the dash and it's not there either. Not sure how to insert photos here but I took pictures of all and it just isn't there?

This truck was a Dallas Police truck previously. Do you think they may have removed the module? The key pad is still on the outside door but the truck is VERY bare bones. Crank windows / no tilt / no cruise / no power seats etc.?

Good morning,
Humpf, that's where the RAP modules were on all my Explorers/Mountaineers (1997-2001). The only exception was my 2001 Sport Trac's, which was in the dash behind the passenger side airbag. If your truck has the keypad on the door it should have a RAP module, Is it an XLT or an XLS model? if you want to post pictures you can use imgru or you can become an Elite Explorer. I'd really like to see a pic of what's in your driver's side cargo area compartment. That's also where the door lock/unlock relays are located. Below, the second pic shows what should be behind the driver's side rear trim panel. The cream colored box is the RAP module and the sticker would have the 5 digit door code in large print. The first pic shows that the door code for this particular vehicle is 75335...

I have to leave for work in about 10 minutes but will do elite memberhip when I get home this evening and send the pics I have. Was thinking of trying to back trace the wires from the door key pad if nothing else works. tks

I've edited the posting to add a second picture.

Looking at your second image explains a lot. I do have the black module in my truck but there is only one plug plugged into it and the other side has an empty plug in it. Either the code mod was removed or never installed in this truck?

Yep. You're correct, there's nothing there. IDK what to tell you. Does your Ex even have power door locks?

There is no key fob and they work by hand. Will have to open the door to see exactly what is connect if anything to the keypad on the door. Very strange. Off work tomorrow so I may pull that door panel off an look at it but taking my son fishing first thing in the morning so it will be later in the day. Will let you know what I find.

Didn't get a chance to look at it yesterday. Off work again tomorrow so will check it out then. Since there are no unlock/lock buttons in the truck, most likely not going to work. Very strange that it would have the number key pad on the door if no power locks. Seems like a waste of money from the factory?

Maybe the drivers door was hit and replaced?

Maybe the drivers door was hit and replaced?

If you don't have a power lock/unlock buttons on the driver & passenger front doors, then you don't have power locks or any of the necessary parts/electronics to make them work. I'd guessing the driver's door was replaced at some point with a salvaged door.

You never answered my question as to whether the truck is an XLT or an XLS? You're calling it an XLT, but I'm thinking it's an XLS, which was the ultra stripped-down fleet model. If you want to learn more about your truck, take your VIN # and go to Ford's ETIS site. There's a button you can click to see exactly how your truck was optioned when it was built.

No, it is an XLT unless they changed the back door emblem also. I will check the VID in the morning though

- Will let you know what I find out
