Fitting 35's with BL and fiberglass....

What kind of Fenders are those? I've been searching the web for a set of cut out flares or glass prerunner style fenders for a gen 1 but haven't had any luck as of yet. I had only minimal issues with takin the sawzall to the ranger fenders in order to run the 40's however the Explorer has a flawless body and I'd like to keep it that way, at least till I flip it on it's side for the first time then who cares! :burnout:

Its one of the forum's sponsors ... Perry's Fab & Fiber They make all kinds of nice Explorer and Ranger glass.

That looks great! Although I can't help but wonder how it would look with some black steelies. :D Are you gonna put the brushguard back on?

Perry Jr. is great - the black gel-coat is a special order at no add'l charge for board members I think.

Yes, I'll be putting the brushguard back on, I had to have the brackets rewelded to accomodate the body lift and the fact that the front bumper sticks out 1.5" more than it used to because of the bolt heads and custom 1/4" steel brackets (template from this board in another post) to relocate the bumper.

Black rims? Why, to match the fenders? :) The fenders will be painted and re-camo'd...eventually. @#$!$@ "saddle tan" color isn't made in a rattle can touch up style...and the local shop wants $500. (To "blend to adjacent panels" and "guarantee" the paint job) They looked at me in horror when I said I just want the damn color close because it's gonna get scratched anyway.

I'm pretty sure he has the body lift. That's how he fit the 35's.

Procomp 1079 rims 15x10, Super Swamper TrXus MT 35" tires with only a torsion twist suspension. Can you say "center of gravity"?

How long have you been searching? www.perrysfabnfiber.com

Yeah I think he just the meant the only suspension mods were a TT.

Hey buck/killer did you put your gears in yet? Watcha think if you went with the 4.56's? I'm thinking about going with 4.88's but intereasted to hear if you have them in and how she rolls.

Regarding fenders: perrys are great and I got a great deal. Hannermann's is the only other that makes them for the Explorer that I found. Glassworks makes them for the Ranger series, and they should work, but no guarantees. There's still a lot of "fitment" tasks even with the perry's. Some of it may be due to my door bushings (I have one sagging and without a 1/2 gap I rub the glass fender when opening the door, but it doesn't happen on the other side, so I'm rigging a bracket with sheet metal screws to the inner tabs on the glass fender to poke it out just a little.

Regarding lift: Yes, 3" BL is in there. Only SUSPENSION lift is TT up front, AAL+2 in the rear (But its stiff so I may be removing one of the AALs....dont know yet). I'm hoping to get another inch from my TT, but I'm out of adjuster bolt length and my CV's are complaining a little already. That's why I need to cut more where it won't show behind the fender.

RE: Gears - still 3.73 LS, and haven't decided 4.56 or 4.88....with the gas prices, I'm thinking that maybe the 3.73 is good enough? :D Seriously though, 4.56 will take me back to my stock ratios, so 4.88 should feel really powerful off road. Besides, I probably shouldn't be doing the 100+mph top speeds on swampers  , so I guess I don't need the upper end the 4.56 would allow. Right? So I guess I'm in the same position as you and looking for advice. I know the daily driver guys will say 4.56 and the hardcores will say 4.88 or 5.13.....I need a dd on 4.88s to give opinions.

i am almost positive gerald runs 4.88's in his on 35's and he even has the sohc. if i remeber correct you have the ohv, i would go with the 4.88's for sure if you have the ohv

cheaper to only regear the rear, so I'm thinking leave it 3.73 in the front and 5.13 in the rear will give me 4.43 on average right? And if I rip out the valves and throw a couple of cams in I'll have a DOHC. That'll git er done.

Doesn't work that way. Your front end would be spinning slower than your rear. Need to do both or none. Good try though.
I'm thinking he was joking ;)

I've got 4.88's and the OHV and its my DD. Personally, I wouldn't even think about 4.56's.

Oh. . .and keep cutting :hammer:

haha if thats the way you do things maybe i dont want to bring my truck over to put on that body lift  :D

I have perrys on a first gen. I love the design but had some problems. They just dont fit anything close to right, came with NO holes drilled or anything. Perrys was verry helpfull when I ordered them but then wouldnt talk to me about my problems. Partly cause I had mounted them when i found all the problems i suppose.

my SOHC and i dont like the 4.88's i spin about 3700rpm at 65mph.
Id say go for it with a OHV motor though.

I dont see how you have rubbing issues. I dont rub with my 35's and i dont have fiberglass and i only gut that pinch weld you cut off.

I dove all teh way throguh that ditch at full lock with no rubbing. and that ditch was almost as tall as a 35" BFG A/T. I am now running 35" Procomp X/T's and they dont rub except on the frame due to the exta 1" of width. If i got a wheel with another half inch of back spacing i would prolly rubt he hell outa my fender though. Try exchanging your wheels for soem with different backspacing.

Fenderguy - yes joking. But if you thought I was serious, I truly appreciate your restraint in not blasting such a noob idea. :D

Nissanboy - nice X. You are at stock backspacing though. My 15x10's at 3.75" backspacing makes them rub at full turn. I love the new stance, but if I had to do it over again, I might do 15x8's or 4.5" backspacing on the wheels. Now I just need a bigger hammer.
