Mech! My hope is to do more field engineering kind of stuff in the utility sende whether its gas or water, or hydro generation. But that could change hence why I went with mech instead of civil or electrical etc.
Mechanical is a great general purpose engineering degree. Very versatile with a lot of demand. One thing about engineering is that you don't have to get out of it completely at retirement and can do work remotely. I will retire this year and still plan to do one or two projects a year for a client who has become a good friend over the years.
I am currently looking for an 8-12 acre piece of land that is around half woods and half cleared. The half of the cleared area will be lawn. Then, as soon as they make a good gas powered "Roomba" lawn mower I will buy it. I am not a big fan of cutting grass.

I have the option to get my UC acct to be an annutiy but theres not enough in it to be worth it. If I go back to UC after college for work Ill go with the pension option for that reason.

Thats part of the reason I want to go into utilities & be a field engr because I can work hands on & build/fix things, and itll be hard for bots to do hands on things or in generation I can work a plant if its hydro thatll be harder for a bot to access because of location. I think AI is going to hammer electrical, computer science and chemical engineering fields more than the others. For the others, I think AI will be a CAD type of tool on steroids. Definitely. AI can already write decent code I just have to check it over before I run it. Its made some basic number computing or trend analyzing stuff for me thats been actually pretty decent. I also think field work is a big part since theres human judgement when youre dealing with equipment that has to be up & running.
Once you get past the first two years, the next two are fun because you are taking courses that are specific to your major. The first two years are brutal and boring.

10-4! Im 90% sure its a bad head gasket, so for now the Explorer is grounded to local trips to Walmart or else it gets toasty really fast. On the flip side that means Ive been driving the Ranger when dad has the company truck and its been a great DD!
