Why do they call it that? It's usually especially the hispanic people, but I've heard a lot of people say it.

Why?

If you've owned one for any period of time, you'll understand why. ;)

Hmm, yeah, I've owned explorers for 2 1/2 yrs...still don't see why.

J

Yep -- these things explode :D

mine's an exploder still love it though, wish somebody could magically fix my gas mileage though............. haha

Why do you all have them then? Mine has never exploded...what explodes? Engine?

They have a self defense mechanism that blows them up when same J**P owner tries to take the rear diff for their hunk of junk. :D

yeah i dont know...beats me

duh...its just a dumb nicname made up by ford haters implying that fords suck...like the Heep Wrangler and Chevrolame...i personally like the nicname and am looking for a "D" that fits to change my badge on mine to say "EXPLO..ER"...Maybe ill get it off a Dodge Pee-on??

I have heard it is because the first gens would need to have the front wheel bearings and hubs replaced at 75K..... When the mechanics would take them apart it looked like they " exploded "

Ya I've already discovered why people call them Ford "Exploders". I've owned my 2002 Ford Explorer XLT with the 4.0 for 8 days and I've already almost completely lost reverse, and it will barely shift gears without slipping like crazy. And ive lost overdrive, it shakes at over 50 mph, and my gas gauge doesn't work. When I bought it 8 days ago everything on it worked perfectly. So far I'm EXTREMELY dissappointed that ford would even release something with this many problems, but I'm sure I have many more to come. :-/

:salute: ROTFLMAO... I was always under the impression it had to do with the gas tank fires from a few yrs back (mainly trks), and it just kinda fit.

Simple minded people find easy to memorize nicknames that had as few letters changed as possible. And also, the same think that using a nickname for people/objects gives them a "cool" aura of non-conformists, something like: "I am NOT saying the names like everybody else, I am a special rebel".

Of course, besides those, there are also the GM fanatics that use that name too... Makes them feel better about their vehicle. I guess they need that to overcompensate, so I am not gonna say nothing.

Totally.....

Or you bought a 10 year old car that was neglected and possibly sold by a shady person.

Totally Ford's fault.
