We could just go the following weekend. Then we would have a little extra time work time.

maybe still on for the weekend

i have sized and cut the mounting plate assembly, sized, drilled and cut the angles, so i only need about 15 minutes of torch time to flush cut the old receiver welds etc and another 30 minutes of welder time to mount the angles. the rest is just drilling and tightening bolts. my buddy is supposed to help me this afternoon and if he does then i am still good for this weekend.

i dont care about the bumper (thats just pretty ****) as long as we have the winch.

that way paul n can still make it if he wants to. if we go to my place i can arrange to have the backhoe there so that we can create the articulated, and off camber hill climbs, tank traps, mud pits and tree traps etc. and test them as we make em.

Alright, I have one commitment this weekend - on Saturday morning. My daughter is running cross-country (first year) and has a meet that morning. It's my first time to see her run, but I should be done by noon.

If this weekend works out for everyone else, I can meet you somewhere Saturday, about 1:00 PM, or can hit the trails any time on Sun or Mon.

No preference to wheeling site - just want to get this Ex off the pavement...

wheeling date....

Well boys and girls, i didnt get my winch done so lets make the GWNF trip next weekend(9/6) lets shoot for an early departure from richmond and go to dry river.

for an option this weekend.... i will go up to the my place in Nelson to kick around on saturday and/or sunday. They got five times more rain there than we did in Richmond. it should definatley be a sloppy mess. If it aint sloppy enough i'll bring out the barrels and the 12 volt pumps to wet down the hill climbs further.

if either you or paul are interested you can give me a call on the cell at 804-512-9288.

I may be up for a little mudding on Sunday.

Looks like that's about a 3-4 hour haul for me, but if you decide to go, post directions and I'll try to make it. I'll check here Sun AM to see if it's a go...

Well, at least I got most of my work done. I am at least nearly ready to wheel. However, a little storm called Hanna may present a little problem. If we get tropical moisture Dry River will very wet. So we may want to pospone an additional week.

youre right about hanna

I agree if hanna does what they say it will then, The Dry will probably be out.....also shoe will likely be out due to the crossings. further it will make camping suck (reminiscent of the explorer outing in crozet a few years back). I am suggesting that maybe we should do Stony since the park service will be shutting her down in a few weeks. That way we can day trip it if we want to and wont be committed to camping.

and yes we can still do the dry the following weekend.

sorry paul

i didnt get your message about last sunday, but i didnt go anyway. i have not been succesful in the past with directions.... not an easy place to find for the first time. next time use the cell # wouldnt have mattered this time since i lost my cell anyway.

for the first time i would have to meet you somewhere like howardsville and get you to follow me the rest of the way in.

as far as travel time... when i looked at a map, i was surprised to see how convenient Fburg is to wheelin spots. i was surprised to see that as the crow flies you are closer to some of these spots than i am, but if you are a die hard interstate kinda person then it probably is that far.

No problem - I'll hook up with you guys at some point in the future. Always up for a run, but the first weekend of the month usually doesn't work for me.:salute:

upcoming runs etc....

hey paul,

spoke with unclemeat today... looks like we are tentatively looking at stony run this weekend 9/6 unless the hurricanes etc get too bad, and dry run the following weekend 9/13.

as to Nelson county....that spot is a little 10ac tract that i own where i got a bulldozer in there pushed enough trees and cut driveable dirt paths with some whoops, pits etc. mainly the trails consist of lots of little 30-50' tall hill climbs with grades in the range of 80% to say 120%. i havent done the 120 uphill yet with the explorer but have driven /slid down it once. mainly i drive the ATVS on it but i have managed to stick the Ex a couple times. i have a two loop section where two trucks can race but i dont do that much because encoraging speeds on narrow trails with steep droppoffs isnt a good thing. last time i did it i almost rolled it and if i had ...being by myself it would have been a while before they found me.

there is also a section at the bottom of the bluff along the james where i have permission to use, wheel, camp etc.

any way i am usually up there working on my tool shed, or trails etc one day a weekend almost every weekend, so if you got an idea that you want to check it out sometime just call me on the cell. I dont check out this forum as often as i should so the cell might be a better more dependable means of communication.

Looks like the pending weather may have changed my weekend work plans, so I may be able to do some wheeling instead. Just got back from two days in NC, so need to check the e-mails again when I get back in the office, and also check commitments on the home front.

If things work out, I'll call you Friday to see if you guys will still be doing stony run...

Weather is looking ugly. Next week may be better. There are still two other storms in the Atlantic that may rain out next week too.

stony run

come on meat...... we can depart richmond fairly early ( am up for as early as 6 am) we can run the trail and be home surfin on the sofa by mid afternoon. a little rain wont kill us... we got roofs windows etc. This way the dust wont be an issue, and we know that there will be some mud. Those weather folks show it hitting here late afternoon on sat. if we do an early departure we will be home by then.

i just got back from my place and i was shocked..... the condition was generally dry..... damn weathermen lied to me again about the additional rain up there. i am glad we didnt make a run there last weekend. i really need to get the backhoe up there to create more obstacles.

i got the winch mounted but havent figured out where to mount the controller box. But it is functional and i can strap the box somewhere for now with bubble gum and baling wire if i have to.

come on... dont back out now youll be home in time to watch them cancel the nascar race due to rain. pick a meeting time for the gaskins park and ride and lets do it!!!!.

if paul goes he can hook up with us at the burger king at the zions crossroad exit (rt 15/64) an hour after our start time. In this case stony run is closer to Fburg than it is richmond.

i will be in the office most of the day spreading that hate and discontent and listening to people ***** at me but buzz me on the cell to confirm what time.
