Got a ticket for my lights

As another example, in California, we have photo enforced intersections in certain cities. However, studies have shown that in those intersections, the yellow lights are shortened by a second or more so that the red light would come on faster than usual and the driver would be caught in the middle of the intersection with a red light violation, even though he would have crossed it safely in other intersections.

i KNEW it!! i got one of those tickets a while back, and i was in the turning lane and it was red, but the normal lane was yellow. why the hell do they give you a $300 ticket if you would normally make the light? i missed it by .01 seconds according the to nice color photo of me crossing the intersection.

The constitutionality of the cameras has come into question more than once. A friend of mine lives in Denver and he got caught speeding by a camera on an overpass. He had to pay a $50.00 (approx) fine and got no points on his license. Why wouldn't they give you the same penalty as any other speeding ticket if it were legit?

The problem with laws in general is that they are only as good as the people who enforce them. We've all gotten a ticket when we KNOW we didn't deserve it. I got one a couple years back from a local redneck county cop (I'm orig from NJ) who said I went through a stop sign. The sign was a quarter mile up the street from my apartment and I went through it every day (stopped at it every day). This guy was about a quarter mile down the road in the dark and says he saw me go through without stopping. My girlfriend says a stopped. I say I stopped. He says I didn't. He didn't like the fact that I disagreed with him (I was very nice and respectful to him as I always am) so he gave me a ticket. I said you know you're wrong and he said, I quote "It doesn't matter. You did it if I say you did it." Yeah, he deserves to be a cop. This guy should be working at McDonald's and not for the county police. Of course, not all cops are like this but this is only one time out of many that I have been pulled over that I feel I got screwed. It will happen to us all at one time or another.

Thing about those stops for lights, missing plates etc... Most cops could care less about those infractions, they just use them as opportunities to pull you over to look for drugs, alcohol, warrants etc...It's their window of opportunity to make a contact with a potential criminal.

Now in my opinion once they realize you are NOT a criminal they should just let you go with a verbal warning on the small time crappola.

I know this board is 99% male... but for the ladies, just start crying... If it doesn't get you out of the ticket, it will get the ticket reduced.

Also, if you ever get a call "donate to local police station" - give them $20!!!! Atleast here in VA, they will give you a little sticker to put on your window "I supported the police in 2003 blhablhalbh". Thats an easy way to earn some extra brownie points. Stick it in the rear passenger window, driver's side so that they will see it when they walk upto the car.

I run with my PIAA 520 fogs turned on most of the time. Mine are aimed a little more down than they are supposed to be, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't blinding everyone. I haven't had a problem yet. I see people in MI with them on all the time...hmm.

I know for a fact the stickers on the back of my truck help. I have "100 Club" stickers which is a foundation to help the widows of officers, and my UTMB sticker works on the Galveston cops since UTMB is the largest employer on the island (13000 people).

Well I can honestly say that I never got a tickett that I didnt deserve.
Luckily I havent gotten all the ticketts I deserve or I wouldnt be eligible for a drivers licence untill reincarnation + 16 years.
Never explain & never complain.....Just say "Thanks you have a nice day too."

Hey, do you guys know of any legitimate websites where I can donate to a police foundation. This might help save my butt cuz I'm very prone to trouble.

Thanks
Brian

Could you please elaborate on what exactly state statues look like.

I can't speak for your individual state, but for example, any blue forward facing lights, are illegal (thusly blue washer nozzels... or exhaust, anything modified beyond the OEM standards, is illegal) If you aren't in compliance, it's illegal, which means a ticket is possible.

What Rick said, is very true.

One bad X

ok that permit the cop told you about is for 4x4 areas only and it's only for 4x2 trucks, bikes, quads, and dune bugys. You get it through DMV. It's called a green sticker. I almost bought one when I had my ranger.

The front plate and lights are ligit. You got to have a plate on the fornt (mine says FORD TRUCKS...does that count?) Your also have to have your offroad lights covered, although I never have. The plate they're getting pretty strict on latly the light are ok most of the time.

I'm not ashamed to admit it, I tried this with a female cop once and she let me go. If the cop was a guy, I probably couldn't have cried if I wanted to, but I told her a story that I am ashamed to admit to, and started tearing up. She never even ran my drivers license.

Then you are telling me all those people running around with neons all over their cars must have covers for them????

Those lights are for off road use only as well, they dont even make covers!

The only reason they want you to have a front plate is for hit and runs (make it easier for witness to get your number) and also so they can bounce their radar off it....

All the cop cars around here have "to serve and protect" written on the sides, that is the role of the police so how does blue lights or light speeding or any of the other garbage things police ticket for have anything to do with their supposed mandate.

Also the worst drivers I've ever seen are cops, always speeding, rolling stops, not signaling turns and spending a lot of time looking down at the computers they have.

I respect good cops but a lot are just out to make their monthly quota and are having a bad day so they dump on everyone else.

2 things:

1. I don't think they're bad drivers (i'm sure they're some) but they're just taking advantage of their job... Personally, I could care less that they speed or have rolling stops... The no signal lane change or turns, bothers me, but then again, if they have radio calls or messages coming over their computers, their main focus isn't on signaling.

2. I don't know about where y'all are from, but in IL "quotas" are illegal... Now, as we see it, it's called a coincidence! ;)

In Irvine, CA, I saw this cop turn on his sirens, run the red light causing oncoming cars to quickly halt to a slight screech, and turn into a plaza to turn in a Blockbuster video. Now that's what I call "Serving and Protecting."

Also, I was wondering, what kind of lights do the cops use? You know the ones that blind the crap out of you and demoralize you when you get pulled over, the same ones that blind oncoming drivers if the police officer does not aim them right. I'd love to have a set of those for offroading, but mine would have to be covered.

I think one of the worst things in society is a police officer that swears to uphold the law and then violates it routinely.

the old saying goes, "It only takes a few sour apples to make the whole barrel bad"...or something like that...it's my belief that the same applies to police. They're not _all_ bad, just some of them, and they give the good ones a bad reputation.
