Hey Explorers! Please help me

Hey everyone. Just picked up a Timberline and already found a problem. The parking brake automatically engaged when I switch fro D to P, and every time I try to drive I have to manually disengage it. None of my friend’s Explorer does this. Is this a problem from the factory or there is a setting controls this feature. Really hate it. Please help me. Thank you very much. The car is brand new, just noticed this when I got home.

I would think it's a feature like the auto locks? But I don't know nothing 'bout these new ones, used to own a 2nd gen. Honestly you can access vehicle settings from the screen right? Maybe in there, or some hidden button??
I kind of like the idea of that feature, but I do get that it would get annoying having to manually disengage it every time. Wish ya luck, hope someone on here has a better answer for ya. Maybe a fuse that controls that, that ya could just pull and not worry about?

the new X's come with an updated software that will automatically engage the parking brake when shufted to park to prevent em from rollin away. its a rather new thing, from the past morth ot two iirc. iirc there is no setting anyone knows of that can change that, not even forscan iirc.

at least it aint as bad as em corollas! my buddy has a '22 and until ya put on the seatvelt itll keep the brake on, talk about annoying

Glad they added that actually people were getting crushed by their new explorers because they had a problem with park. Maybe disconnect the motor.... There was even a episode on 911 from what I remember.

How about we don't make comments like this where people may take this seriously. There have been zero accidents or injuries related to the bolt fracture and this parking brake program.

A rear axle bolt can fracture when the Ford Explorer is in drive, which can then let it roll away when in park.

There was problems with the pawl too maybe there is no problems with that secondary safety measure in place.

Yes seriously. Risk of rolling away vs Zero accidents or injuries are two different things.

The risk is/was there of it happening but it hasn't happened. Nobody has been "crushed", or been in an accident, or had vehicle damage, or injuries. 235 warranty claims in almost 3 years regarding the bolt issue vs almost 600,000 sold.

I guess there was allot of hype over nothing then... Don't they still have the same parts? Like there is no way that would happen with the electric parking brake and the car in park.... Wtf that 911 episode came out and bashed ford at the same time as the recall I thought it was for reals.

Sounds to me like 200+ people were mobbin too hard and blamed their broken driveshafts on the recall

Since the Timberline is 2.3L, there probably won't be an issue with bolt fractures but the possible liability issues forced Ford to come up with a "fix" that didn't cost much.
A bolt fracture would certainly make the vehicle un-drivable I would think. I guess while it's waiting to be repaired, they don't want it to roll away.

Mine does it too and I think it's a good thing. I've always used the parking on every vehicle I've owned and to disengage it simply requires pushing a button right next the the transmission selector. On my previous F 150, you needed to push a button on the lower left hand side of dash.

No actually the new E-brakes automatically release when you put the vehicle in drive or reverse and press the gas. Never have to remember to release on the newer vehicles. My 2013 MKZ also automatically released in drive but you had to be wearing your seatbelt for that.

I have a custom tune from ZFG racing for my ST and I had it before the recall update. The few days I drove it after the update I just got accustomed to pushing the e brake button right after the start button while my foot was on the brake. Then I reloaded my custom tune and the e brake recall update disappeared, yes you read that right, it's gone. If you have a tune from before the update, just don't update the base tune file to include the recall and just reload your tune, easy peasy.

That is exactly why the update exists. In some extreme situations the driveshaft and/or one or both axles may become disconnected thus rendering the parking pawl inside the trans useless, and to prevent further damage and/or injury and possible death.

true, id you happen to have the pre programming then yes that makes sense. but for those who ahvent tuned or have access to original software then maybe not
