i was just wondering if there were any problems if i were to put your fog light HID kit in with an alarm system. the problem that i might see is if my alarm was triggered(my fog lights flash with the alarm)would there be any problem/or strain on the lights or balasts from the repeated on and off of the fogs lights. would the lights even have enought time to turn on in that short period of time. my thinking was that it my cause a premature falure of the kit.. any info would be great.

I have no idea but would thing that most electrical components fail at one of two points; when the component is first turned on with the first in-rush of current and second is just the opposite, when the power is turned off after being hot for a while.

So to answer you question, using your assumptions about the Ballast and in my opinion, the constant on/off of the alarm system would cause some reduction on life each time it is used if not failure the first time.

thats kinda what i thought

i have an HID kit and i have the Alarm kit and they flash when you arm it.. so far after 6 mon no failure.. i'm assuming the balast may die faster.. but it's not really something you can do about it.. the light output outwieghs the cost of the balast

thats good to hear that they have lasted this long thanks for the feed back

It is funny that the HID lights will even show any light with just a quick flash of electricity to the Ballast but so be it.

Why not just use the parking lights for the alarm flash ?

I don't know... like i've mentioned in other posts my wiring abilities with the stock wiring in the truck is limited.. i can run new wires and fuses and can figure out where to tap and stuff... but figuring out where the alarm goes... not my thing.. especially cus if i mess up my truck won't start.. :( all the lights on my truck flash when my alarm arms/ goes off

my fog lights turn on with a button and i dont want to have to remember to turn it off every time i get out of the car its kinda a pain. so i have been trying to figure this out to have the fogs come on only with the low beams

What I did was the complete opposite of you but if you reverse it it will work. I rewired mine to come on with the parking lights so that the fogs would stay on with the high beams, the reason because I did a HID retrofit to the fogs and it is bad for them to be flipped on and off when the high beams come on, and that's what will happen if you wire the fogs off the low beams. Anyway here is how you do it, but I don't recommend it. You need to find the relay for the fog lights, it is located under the air filter box in a small relay box. You need to strip back the wrapping on the wiring harness that goes into the relay box to expose the wiring. Then you need a shop manual to find out what wire is the "power in" lead to the rely. Cut that wire, and run a wire from the right low beam to that power in lead on the relay.

i found the relay box under the air box but there is only 1 relay and it doesnt go to the fog lights, any other places to look

That is the only place that it would be, if they are factory installed fog lights.

im am positive, mine only has the high speed blower relay in there and yes the fog lights are stock, it doesnt make any sense from what i am getting from you guys. if i knew how to put pics in thes forum i would put one up, my relay box looks just like the one that is on the 2nd page of FOG LAMP MOD 2001(1999-2001) thread, mine looks just like the one on ALDIVE's replay just only the big relay second from the left is only there

See I have a relay wired into my alarm so that only my parking lights flash. If you push your high beam stick forward that would keep your fog lights from flashing. But if your high beams are HID's then they would flash, my high beams are Hella 500's. I would go talk to a Alarm shop and see if they have a mod that would only let your parking lights flash like mine do. They should my guy did it for like 50$ I think? He is a good friend of mine too though :salute: Chreers

thanks for the info i will have to stop by car toys sometime and have them hook that up

Sorry I got confused...I thought you ment the headlights...

When it comes to the parking lights...I just turn them off every time I get out of the truck with the stock foglight switch...That way they do not flash with the parkinglights...Seems very simple to me?
