How Many Miles to a Tank?

Damn, it seems like the Ex's are all over the place with mpg's....

I'm getting ready to take the first real road trip with our *new* 99 SOHC from Virginia to Georgia next week so it'll be all highway miles and I'll get to see what she does. I'd be happy to get 23mpg.

The tank should be 21 gallons actually. You should easily be able to go 300 miles if you have stock size tires and everything. Then when you fill up pay attention to how many gallons you put in. Then you can figure how much farther you could have gone on the tank.
its 21 gallons if its a 4 door...if it is a sport like mine, you only have a 17.5 :thumbdwn: mine is a 5 speed and only 2wd and I can go about 240-250 miles then the light comes on.......

I have a '99 Sport with the base V6 and a 65.5 litre tank. I don't know how that converts to gallons. I tend to fill up when the "Check Gage" light comes on. At that point it usually takes about 59-60 litres to fill up and I've gone about 425-440Km's. Its about 90kms roundtrip to work and home on mostly rural roads. My driving style is pretty conservative too. I'll have to look into a MAF and 02 sensors as solutions for improving my MPG as I'm sure I can get better out of it.

I dont know about that having an effect, BUT keep in mind that Explorers came with several different gear ratios, from 3:27-3:55-3:73, I hear some people claiming 4:10 stock, which I have never seen myself. I had a 4.0 OHV 2WD and a tank gave me 320, it had 3:73 gears. I changed it to 3:55 and easily got another 20 miles out of a tank. I just got a 5.0 and made it 2WD. It also had 3:73, I put in 3:55 ,I may even go 3:27.
Think about it if your reving 500 or 1000 rpm more at cruise, you will be buring more fuel. I have an O2 problem now, but still getting about 16mpg.

Got the O2 changed and it went from 15.5 to 17 mpg. Still not great but I believe we have switched over to oxygenated fuel (winter blend) here in CA:mad:
