Just got a piece to my new project. My radio bezel has been cracked since I got it, and I've now finally gotten around to bidding on one. I'm planning on painting that, the black inserts in the center console, the black in the over head console, and the bezel around the gauges to match the exterior color.

Any Tips on painting this stuff. From research the rubber coating has to be sanded off. What about removing the labels for the r. wiper and the 4x4 switch? and the vents.

Thanks alot!!

PS- The wood trim is coming off :p

Looks very nice, what was the proceedure you did to paint it?

i was using a compresser/paint gun..but..i first went at it with pretty rough snad paper(not sure of the grit) to get the rubber coating off of it..(nasty stuff to get off)..then real fine sand paper..then 2 coat's of color sanding inbetween..then 3 coat's of clear..and buff..you can't tell in the pic's but it's all shiny as hell!!

good luck!!

is it just me or more and more members are doing the interior mods lately, more specifically the radio bezel? i should jump on the band wagon and do mine. good luck with yours, iamtodd.

Hey thanks guys! I've always wanted to do this. But never had the $$ at the right time and never wanted to paint my cracked one. What did you do to your wiper and 4x4 labels Ak LTD Xplorer?

i removed all the switches and the back thing that say's wiper and 4x4..they are melted together..so i broke the little tab's then used epxy to put them back on..i did my whole center consol, brazel(?) and the thing around the speedo(working on it)

Cool, exactly what I'm planning to do! Hopefully go one step further and try the overhead console. I saw the blue one on here that the guy put in a ranger, and it turned out very nice! I'm gonna do the bezel, and see how it looks. I don't know if its gonna be too much green or not.

oh yeah..im plannin ghte over head consol also..how could i have forgot..lol

Well, It looks quite different now. WIth some fingernail polish removed, sanding, paint stripper, and more sanding, its ready for paint!! Gonna go price the paint at a few places tomorrow, then probably move onto the center console.

I did find one important thing, laquer thinner will eat away at the plastic!! Yet it did nothing to that rubber coating

Damnit, evryone is stealing my mod I did like 2 years ago. Then again... I did steal it fromt he guy who originally did it. I believe it was a purple explorer where he painted his consoles purple too.

Believe it or not, I wanted to do this long ago, before I had seen it done. But recently people have started to do it, and so I figured I would too!

Heres a few pics of my painted interior. I think this is going to be the limit, as anymore would probably place me in the wannabe ricer category. ;)

yeah i used adhesive remover to clean my part's..

im getting more paint after school..i will try to the the OHC done and get pic's

I think I might try the TB cover for the OHV. STOP GIVING ME IDEAS!!!

Here's a better shot. Thought I was gonna get a quart of paint for only $27, yea!!! Well turned out they didn't have the formula for Arcrylic(SP?) Emanel. Base coat, clear coat, with supplies and all was fonna be $94(no way!!) So I finally tracked down a place for the right stuff(what I wanted in the first place!!) for $40. So not bad I guess! Time to prep the rest of the parts!
