so what about my mods now? cherry bomb... mmmmmm

GREAT!!!!! have anotehr problemmm :(

jsut got a new code... 0761 ---- appears that code is for a bad shift soleniod..... o/d light flashes on and off and the car runs like poop from a stop.... if i turn off the car and restart it and immediately press the o/d off button, it appears to return to proper operation...

hey tbars, thats one of the threads i bookmarked when i searched yesterday..... thanks anyways though, id rather get dual info than not enough ;)

haha, you are like the link king, lol

glacier recommended that i look into www.transmissionpartsusa.com to find the soleniod for my P0761

http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/4R44E_4R55E_5R55E_transmission_solenoids_s/12050.htm

here is the link, which solenoid do I need? i have no idea how to tell any of them apart

also, glacier, if you see this, should i look into getting the epc as well?

talked to glacier a little bit today... still have some questions for the rest of you though.....

http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com...5E_transmission_solenoids_p/609-00056841u.htm OR http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/4R44E_4R55E_5R55E_shift_solenoid_1995_on_p/230-00023393b.htm -- is this the shift soleniod i need for my 96 to fix code p0761

i need to get an epc, there are 2 epcs lisited on that site, and i am not currently aware which tranny i have, one is for a green screen and the otehr is red?

also, it was advised that i get the bracket for the epc as well, i have been told this is a ford only part. anyone have the ford part # for it? or a little beter description as to what it is?

i plan on doing the solenoid asap, then glacier told me to do the epc after i do a few fluid changes --- i will most likely put that in at the same time i have him do my valvebody (which will be hopefully soon)

i am going to run mercon 5 in the tcase and the tranny.... want to buy it in bulk... will need at least a couple gallons, then later on i will have the tranny powerflushed

see above post

i need to order parts asap

Do the superior shift kit and ford mods

Also want to do the sonnax boost valve

Replace the ssc? For the p0761 --- is this the ssc? Glacier said get the teckpak Instead of the oem http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com...5E_transmission_solenoids_p/609-00056841u.htm

as for the epc I also want to replace, not sure if mine is green or red, I will pull it when I drop my pan and check it out-then order what I need….

is this the bracket I am supposed to replace or is there another one?
bracket11.jpg

where is the solenoid I need to replace? I will be doing this with the vb still in the car, I know which one is the epc (marked in red epc, lol)… I imagine the brain coral side is up towards the body, so I will not see that side, I will be able to figure it out from underneath
epcmounting1.jpg

oh yeah, the bolt that holds the bracket will need to be torqued properly as it is a vb bolt.... i will buy a harborfrieght 1/4 drive torque wrench for this

ordered the bracket from ford $12.54, should have it tomorrow

got the fram tranny filter

got the wells dpfe

got 1 of the lines for the dpfe replacement hoses (bigger of the 2)

where can i buy merc 5 that isnt going to cost me $8 a quart? i am planning on at least about 3 gallons....

The basic Mercon V is about $4-5 isn't it, I haven't bought any recently. The Amsoil would be close to $8 per quart, that's best for when you get the trans issue worked out and don't need to go back into it. Regards,

i went shopping today, i might just use the regular dex/merc ... it isnt mercon 5 but, my truck is a 96 and shouldnt need mercon 5.... i found proline @ pepboys for $8 a gallong and supertech @ walmart for $7 a gallon.....

is it safe to use these? i dont want to spend the extra $ but i plan on doing several pan drops, and this is a lot more cost effective

If you can still buy the Mercon as it disappears, do that. The Mercon V started around 1998 I think, now that Mercon cannot be made any more, you will have to change soon.

ok couple of questions.... sparkplugs, wires, muffler

what size is the stock exhuast tubing? i saw a glasspack @ pepboys today for $20, but its 2.25" in/out

what about spark plugs? i think i have the double platinums as indicated by PP under the hood

autozone and other stores do not have the oem. i did find one semi locally that says they carry motorcraft, but i have not yet inquired directly of my application. i found some ngk plugs that should work... what does everyone think of them? ngk are the oe recomendation on my toyota and have kicked but in my experience in that toyota

ngk ptr5f-11* laser platinum *"laser series" platinum center electrode, and platinum pad ground electrode

what about wires? how much am i looking @ spending? the ngk wires for my application run $40 before shipping ($50 shipped) ngk fdz036
OR
i found some wires on www.stuffforyourranger.com his wire sets are $48 or $68 (the 68 have a protective heat braid on top of the standard 8mm silicone jacket)

stuffforyourranger.com also has the ngk spark plugs for $6 each..... i looked up the spark plug on google, and it says $12 each, from like everywhere else

Don't try to run plugs for 75-100k miles. Most people pull them out and find the gaps to be way off. Save money and buy reasonably priced plugs, and change them at maybe 50,000 miles. Plug wires go from cheap quality(most wires), to very good(Ford, Taylor), to the best in Magnacor wires. Don't buy anything under about $45, the next level is about $75, and the best are about $125 for the 302. Regards,

how much should i be looking @ spending?

does the double paltinum ngk's sound acceptable?

what about the wires from stuffforyourranger.com?

where could i but the motorcraft, magnecore, taylor? cheaply?

i dont have the $ to be extravagant, but it wont skimp on quality

Pick your wires based on how long you will keep the truck. For a year or two get the lesser priced wires, for 2-4 years, get Taylor or Ford. If you will keep it longer, buy the best, I think the Magnacor is the only one which will not start to fail in a few years. I have them on only one truck, I bought Motorcraft for my 99, I had a credit from an old OHV set to use.

Check with Torrie at Fast Ford Parts, is that the right name of it?

does fpn have the magnecors? i will bw keeping this truck as long as possible

what about the ngk plugs? i have had good results with ngk in my toyota. i am not opposed to the ford oem though, just not sure on their pricing or anything like that

what about the ngk plugs?

Some people have said that they had issues with NGK, I still say that plugs are too simple to be much different. New plugs always outperform old plugs. I like Motorcraft by default though. I have used others, my latest was Beru Silverstone(silver electrodes), no difference.
