Take your time removing the tiny 8mm bolt. Cross your fingers and hold your tongue just like MJ before the magic moment.

Ok guys I'm going in

I have never installed an Aussie locker-so, yeah. Wish me luck!

Not too hard of a job, I'm installing one in the 3.73 diffs that I'll be installing in my 3rd gen later.

Did you buy a powertrax hardened cross shaft? I hear its good because the factory one can be a bit soft for a lunchbox locker.

Woot!
The bolt came right out . The cross pin slid out with no effort!

I have all the gears out and the side load bushings are like .025"
does this sound right?

Going back together now.

Very good, I hate that baby bolt. After that bolt it's no worries.

That sounds about right - they are quite thick (for some strange reason).

He's talking about the large shims that go on the outside of the carrier bearings and is used to locate the deck plane with the pinion's axis.

Oh right! I guess I was thinking they were called spacers. anyway, IIRC the spacer/bushing to cross pin gap should be between .006-.020. .025 isn't too far off though...thrust washers could be a bit worn.

I think the gap between the two halves of the fully assembled locker is more critical...that measurement is definitely affected by thrust washer thickness...so if you're out of spec there, I'd say get new ones....that will bring it back in range.

The installation of your Aussie locker is now complete.
Sparksaflyin came down to lend a hand. Thanks Mark!!

However, for the life of me I don't see how a guy would ever get it back apart again. How in the bageezus are you supposed to get the clips out?

Anyway-I have the cover back on. Just need to fill up the fluid, put the calipers back on and then the wheels. Gonna eat some pizza right quick

Woot - time to break some axle shafts :p:

Yeah Gregg I feel a lot better about it now.

Went for a short drive, nothing went bang. Then I went down to the river for some gravel and both wheels dug in, so, I think it's a wrap.
