Some have been said to use a C4 but the C5 is the easiliest adaptable... It can use C4 internals, i do believe, and if people don't want to jump straight to an atlas, there is the D 20 which is gear driven and can run twin sticks. Unfortunately, the C4/5 don't have overdrives.. If i knew this back in the day, i never woulda done the 5.0 but a c5/d20 then sas... live and learn... trucks lookin good Josh!

Thanks RFR. What do the D20s come on? You've got me thinking now, i'm not sure if cory is running the c4 or c5. I knew they didn't have OD, but who cares for a trail truck anyways?!

Not sure if a Dana 300 would bolt up to a C4/C5, but AA makes a "flip kit" for it so it can run driverside drop, with dual sticks and even 4:1 gear kits. Saw a TJ go this route rather than the Atlas, and for the money he saved over the Atlas he was able to throw in a Klune V.

They do make a kit to bolt the D300 up to the Ford C4.

C4 - D300 Adapter = $648.85

D300 case = $250
D300 Flip Kit = $239.05
D300 4:1 Gears = $700
D300 Rebuild Kit = $100?
D300 Twin-Sticks = $130?

So that totals out to ~$1400.

Klune-Vs start out at about $1800. I think you would need an adapter for the C4, so that probably costs $500. That would bring you to almost $4000.

So there you are way over the cost of an Atlas, but you would have more ratio options.

The D20 you would want would be out of an Early Bronco.

I am running a C5.

To run a C5 behind a 4.0L all you need is an 84-85 Ranger or BII C5 tranny, C5 TQ converter, C5 flexplate, 4.0L A4LD starter, new tranny lines (or adapter to smaller C5 lines), aftermarket shifter, and some time.

The C4 and C5 are identical internally, except that the stock TQ converter in a C5 is a lock-up style. Also, the C5 uses one more friction disc in its pack and the t-case adapters and output shafts are different.

So to run a D20 behind a C5, you would need the C4-D20 t-case adapter and C4 output shaft.

dana 20s are in old broncos i know that... plus you can get low gear sets for them... I could be wrong, but I wouldn't suspect that a ohv would be able to nuke a 4:1 d20, but i could be wrong If ya don't need OD, no biggie, as i wasn't sure if yer truck was gonna be a DD or trail truck.. :)

You can bolt up a C-5 to your current transfercase with no modifications. I put a 351W and c-5 in my exploder and kept the stock transfercase. Had to change the driveline lengths, but that was it.

Well my truck isn't a DD but it is driven on the street, for now anyways. I have a company vehicle that i can pull my explorer around with, that makes it nice.

With that, I'd make the stock driveline last till something fails, and then go for a stronger swap..

You SAS guys using CV shafts up front due to the fact that the output flange on the t-case it pointing a few degrees up, or are you just pointing the pumkin down a few degrees to make up for it. I know it is a tought decision since you have to deal with caster. Hopefully we can make these things work without haveing to cut and turn the knuckles:p

I'm actually in the middle of trying to figure out what to do for a shaft. The local place here said they can't do it, so i don't know what i'm going to do.

check your other thread. it is easy. I'll get you some pics. (of course I am in the racing capital of the world, so they claim, and the driveshaft shop I go to knows there ****)

I just shot Jess an email, so i'll check that tomorrow and then decide. 4xshaft told me about 350 for the adapter and shaft and it takes a couple of days, plus free shipping, so, we'll see if Jess can beat that. Thanks for the help.

Tom Wood's is a very nice guy. I have talked to him personally. Know's what he is talking about and seems to have decent prices with free shipping. Turn around is only a day. Just a FYI.

I just ordered the front shaft from Tom's shop. He said tom is actually out on some easter run somewhere. So it will be a couple of days, but it should be here this time next week, hopefully anyways.

I talked with Cory last night. The parts should be there today. Meaning the brake lines and the shocks. After those are on, he'll bleed the brakes and maybe take it for a test drive. The the bumper brackets (for Jason!) will be in tomorrow and he can get that knocked out in a day. And i'm going to down to pick it up on friday!

woohooo! ;)

Well, so much for picking it up tomorrow:(

He got 2 shocks (out of 4) and no brake lines. Also, no bumper brackets. The brackets will be there tomorrow afternoon, then he can take that out on tuesday. The other parts should be there by then, if not, i'm going to personally shoot someone! But while we are waiting on the other parts, we're going to go ahead and get the front bumper powder coated. I can't wait to see the results. I know he'll keep us updated. Cory has worked his butt of on the this thing and wouldn't you know it would be the lack of good shipping that holds us up! Oh, well at least i've got something to look forward to next weekend!

jeez man.. i know you were looking forward to it so much. soon enough though! like the new avatar!
