Liftgate lock

The lock on my liftgate does not work, i can hear it when i press the lock switch. When i took it apart i moved the connection around and it worked but when i put it back together it didnt anymore. Should i replace the lock actuator or would it be an wire thing, the lights over the license plate work. Its an 99 explorer sport...

I had the same problem. I could hear it unlock with the button, but it never actually unlocked. I replaced the actuator and all is well now.
