Solved Lifts and Max tire sizes

As the updated chart had said, 2005 can be fitted with a 265/70/17 without modification. I read also that darkstone also fitted his bauer with them and had no complains. I fitted my 2005 XLS with them yesterday and was surprised of the rubbing on the left front tire only when I make a turn. Can anyone help me fix this? I don't want to resort to a spacer or any modification. This is an urgent plea. thanks.

If you're stock, then the 31x10.50 is the biggest you can go, but it will fit on the sotck wheel. You need at least a 4" lift to fit 33x12.5s on there. I was just saying that you can put a 33x12.5 tire on a stock wheel.

oh ok, thanks. i dont want to lift it at all, but the stock tires just look so weenie. haha.

btw, your truck is badass.

I Just Bought Some Cragar 15x8 Ss/t Rims With A 4 Inch Backspace Will 31x10.5x15's Fit Without Any Rubbing, ?
I Think They Are Going To Look Sweet, Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated

You'll be fine. They shouldn't rub at all.

The only thing that worries me is that they are uni-lug wheels and use a shank lug type lug nut.

Hi all. I am new here. Am going to change tires on 98 XLT. Wonder if the following will fit without modification. new sets 245/65/17 Goodyear Fortera and rim width =8j, Rim diameter=17 offset=mid, bolt pattern=5 x 4.50.
Is Fortera a good quiet tire?

Another question is I need to replace the from bumper. Can you direct me where to get the diagram/installation instruction? Do I need to replace bumper brackets ( they seem to have two different kinds ) along with top and bottom plastic stripes? Is is a DIY job?

Many thanks .

Why Does The Uni Lug Bother You , Cause I Have Been Lookinf For Theses Wheels For Months And Considering They Are 15 Or More Years Old , They Look Almost Brand New. ( Thank You Ebay)
I Can't Wait To Get My Tires. And Mount Those Babys I Will Post Before And After Pics Soon

Because they have more of a tendency to come loose. For street use you will be fine. If you plan on using your explorer for trail use get some steel wheels.

Ok, I was TRYING to look through all 21 pages in this thread, and I guess I need some clairification.

I just got a 1996 2 door sport 4x4....I'm going to need tires in the next few months.

I was to put bigger tires on, without modding anything (lifts, cutting, etc)

I THOUGHT i saw 31 x 10.5 is the max? I thought this is odd, b/c I have that on my bronco, with no mods.

Thanks for the input.

A full size Bronco? If so, that's the reason right there.

For no lift on an explorer a 31x10.5 is the largest you can fit. Also there was no need to read the whole thread, there is a chart with all of the info in the 1st post...

Well...sure not a Bronco II (crap...lol)

It's just weird that the same tire will fit on both vehicles. The bronco, if i use anything bigger, it will rub, g/f dad found out the hard way on his bronco.

So 31x10.5 wont rub, even with the wheel turned at max?

I have 3 inch Body lift with a 2" Suspension lift. 3.73 Gears and wish to run. 33.10.50's I understand these tires measure only 31" over all height. Used to pee off the Jeep guys with 35's by showing everyone they are only 33's . I will do this then take pictures.

One question will the 16" Ford wheels have the same bolt pattern as my 15" wheels on the 92 Exploder.. I know full size is diff but not in the Mid size ranger and Exploder..

i have a 99' explorer how much of a lift can i get from the torsion bars and blocks? 2.5-3"'s? and what size tires could i run on that? 32's? my jeep tj has 35's on it..but i have to see it

You can't put blocks on an Explorer as they are spring under axle. You have to use add-a-leafs (AAL)/shackels on the rear.

2" is the max you will gain. If you go more than 2" on the torsion twist (TT) you will be past the safe degree of angle on your CV joints.

You should be able to fit 32" tires w/o trimming & 33" with trimming. Every Explorer is different.
