M90 rebuild (rudy)

well figured i would start a new thread.just a quick background.did the whole build on my explorer but built it using stock head gaskets and head bolts.did it really as a safety net and i just couldnt afford head studs at the time.well to say the least i blew the head gaskets off from it wile i was in the mountains on a forum trip about two years later.

i picked up a 1994 ranger, its got the 4.0 OHV and is a 5 speed 2wd.the plan is to pull the motor out of the explorer and rebuild it.

this thread will basically cover the rebuild and build up of the new ranger.it will basically end up as a street race truck.ive named it Rudy:D:D so let the fun begin.

15" for now but 16's or bigger aren't hard to find around here. There's lots of X parts around here. Then again my motor is trash (bottom end) so Im at a stand still for the moment.

I knew about the 95+ ranger upgrade on the 4wd models, didn't know about the 2wd.

you know just doing the 95-97 upgrade only gets you the dual piston calipers and 10.25 rotors right?to get 12" rotors you have to machine brackets to move the calipers so you can run 12" rotors

Yup... it'd be great to have big brakes for my overall plan. I have decided to join you and Dono in the s/c crowd.... and the WIFE is okay with it :D:thumbsup:

well calipers and rotors came in.let me start to say i bought loaded 4x4 calipers from rock auto.was a closeout for $63.12 for both, they included the bracket and pads.i will be using neither.i soon found out the caliper brackets are different from 4x2 and 4x4,i already had the 4x2 brackets so.both the rotors and calipers weigh a freakn TON!!! on to the pics

differences from 4x2 and 4x4 brackets

This is no small undertaking. Very nice!

Nope.the whole front end will be brand new and when I say the whole front end I mean everything. .;)
I'm about $500 into it and still need drop beams and ball joints...and other little stuff but that's the pricey stuff.I estimate ill have a grand in the front suspension by time I'm done:( but will handle and stop from the speeds I plan on doing;)

Well haven't got anything really done on the brakes, my machine shop is taking their sweet time.....but I did get in the bearings, seals and ball joints in.I also got some bling for the front end.I replaced all the chrome molding and got a billet grille, grille will be here Wednesday. Did some work on swapping the three gauge pod over and the 50 amp switched power fuse box also.hopefully ill be done with the whole front suspension swap in the next two weeks, not much parts left to get;)

Don't mind the purple shifter....it was there when I bought it and funny thing is I kind of like it..NOT THE COLOR THO!!

Your busting things and you haven't even added the real power yet. What brand of tires do you like? I really need to buy stocks in that company. :)

The brakes are an awesome idea. Their going to cook great. What kind of rims are you going to use? You will really need to show those brakes off.

Well this made me really think.....sooo I found my solution;););)cobra brakes need cobra rims;););)

And man do these rotors look TINY!!!!

20130519_112045_zpsd0b921db.jpg

They are the cobra r 18" that have been powder coated.got them from a fellow member on here;) the front will be 245/45 and the rear is getting 275/40.I have a set of 245/45 that I will be putting on soon to clear the drop, they are used and picked them up for $100 on Craig's list.the rims have 255/55 on them now and are just to tall for my taste and probably won't clear my drop

I also got in the bearings, seals, ball joints, bushings, new springs and finished the brake brackets.ill post a pic of those after I get them cleaned up and painted.the springs I went with are moog progressive rate cargo springs, they have a 60lbs increase of spring rate over stock and are progressive.ill be getting the sway bar and drop beams next week as I spent that money on the rims.also got a new grille.

Little to much sidewall for me and the drop, but once I get the new tires on and drop it should look really good.they will match my paint very close once I paint the truck.ooooo it should be more than fun:D

I know it isn't anywhere close to you, but where I'm at there's 2 different listings for drop beams under $300.

Again I know it don't help you at all for the moment, but an 18 hr (one way) road trip for almost new beams.... LMAO

well last week me and Freddy gutted the truck to do the headliner and clean the carpet.as soon as we got the headliner out we knew it was not going to be good.the corners and the whole thing was just falling apart.we went ahead and covered it knowing it would prob fall apart, well it did.im going to end up buying a abs backboard and redoing it.

so I pulled the carpet and pressure washed it and man you wouldn't believe what came outa it.then I had the great:eek: idea to try and dye it a little to cover the stains.so I picked out a dye that was very close went to town..............well to say the least its BLUEEEEEEEE as can be now,not anything like it should have came out:eek::eek:i may end up ripping it back out or see how it looks with my new seats, should match them

then two days later my radiator blows up.i had one in the ex that has a efan on it that ive been meaning to swap over.so I did and found out that ruffly a ranger motor is a 1/2 closer and the engine bay is about an inch smaller.it fits but is very close

original carpet
