I found out the guy who did my current exhaust, ken, dropped dead on the job awhile back. Which explains why the shop has been closed. I had hoped he had moved to bigger facilities. But no.

So I was thinking about keeping my current setup. Both to save money and out of a sortof respect for his work. He was a cool guy. I think it will sound sick with the new engine.

I ordered that comp can by the way. And new head bolts, intake bolts, waterpump/timing coverbolts, plastigauge, and a gasket set.

and I just ordered some scat connecting rods.

Don, I'm sorry, I paysted the specs for the wrong cam on that edlbrock. I was a little tired. Glad I didn't accidentaly buy it or anything.

Any measurments on that rad jaime?

Try to measure the later Explorer units, see if they are not too tall to fit your truck.

No way Gen II radiators will fit Gen I truck, it is so tall it would hit the steering, or the hood...trust me I measured every radiator I have laying around, even the one in my dad's skid steer loader LOL

gen II radiators are TALL compared to GEN I, I mean like 10" difference

did you measure your AA radiator?

I have read of that cm being used many times, but I don't recall what exact engines they were for. The lift is a big concern with the stock valve springs. If the valve springs are not right for a cam, a ton of problems can occur. You can have poor driveability, no power, let alone having valve or piston issues. I suggest having proper springs installed for the cam, the cost is really nothing compared to finding out later that they need to be changed.

yeah I'm looking at new springs. I think the stock rockers will be ok. They aren't roller but there pretty stout. I can extend the cut out if have to. And I may just get proform rockers anyway.

OOOPS Ill measure the radiator
I love the cam in my 96, but I wouldnt do the E cam again, just similar
the roller rockers are cool too, compressing those springs was a CHORE!!
I just wish I would have done the pushrods and lifters at the same time... now I am going back in there soon! :)

yeah I'm still waiting on the new cam before I order new pushrods. In case the base circle is off. I think ill reuse the Lifters if they look good after cleaning and inspection.

Whilebworking on my dads truck the other day I noticedhow much room there was in the rad area. I think the 4.0 rad will fit well with some cutting to the support. The only problem is the cap. It's kinds tall.

Well got some parts in today. Or was it yesterday...

Heres the rods, gaskets, head/water/timing/intake bolts, bump stick, and plastigauge.

Unfortunately the set has cork valvecover gaskets. i may ditch those and get some steel core with bonded o-rings like the ones i took off.

On a side note, i really wish summit would stop sending me the brochure for these guys with my orders...

Because every time i look at them i have to take a Cold shower.

If I ever win the lottery, one of those is at the top of the list.

Those things are way pricey. I was checking them out in summit. It would be hard to justify them if they weren't going on your basic $60,000 show car. Bling none the less.

Yeah like I say. If I ever win the idiot tax.

Ok so what do guys think on electric fan Cfm to cool a 5.0 with the stock 4.0 rad which has an 18"x18" heat exchanger area? And I beleive is two core.

No thoughts? :bounce:

:help: :feedback: :)

As many as you can get-Idunno.

Fit as large of a radiator as possible, and work with the depth available to find a fan. The OEM fan works well, an electric fan can be tough to fit in a tight space. The Mark VIII and Taurus fans are very good, but they need a controller.

Also give a thought to what you'll do with the vehicle, are you going to offroad with it? Possible water crossings? Or strictly a street vehicle?

Only reason I bring this up, is I've read where Electric Fans work well for street vehicles, but not so much for offroad (once they ARE off road). But again that was for the 4.0L, not sure about the 5.0L.

am I making sense?
