Matt's '92/'99 4X4 V8/4R70W swap!

But that's even better right? All I need to do is retrofit the tcase with the gear and I'm good to go. Yes?

pretty much, get this I might have the parts you need LOL
I have a bad 1356 t case... It was pictured in my 4x4 conversion thread
I have to check the barn to see if I still have it! Might have to ship you another package! LOL

holy heck man!

You might have to apply for a buisiness license for Fortune Parts Supply!

dang I was wrong:
tcase2.jpg

the 1356 I have, does not have the tailshaft speedo, dang! I was hoping we could use something from it, now its just a boat anchor

but is that a cast-in spot for one I see?

Mine doesn't even have that. I could have yours drilled and tapped. And then all I need to do is get the plastic gear.

Oh and since you have a busted tcase sittin around.

Do you have that shaft thing I busted earlier in the thread?

Edit: ah never mind I looked closer and realized yours is a manual shift.

what do you guys think about converting to stud mount rockers?

The selection for them is much better than the stock pedestal style.

How many rpm's will the engine be in it's power band?
over 5500 then yeah-7/16" studs
You want to have the heads milled off .500" at the pedestal deck, and new holes tapped
Don't use the cheapo Crane Cams conversion kit

You'll also need push rod guides

I'm using the Crane 1.7 ratio ones that are $199. they were $179 when I had got them.
Yes, keep in mind how you are going to use your truck. If it is for street use, don't get too crazy with performance parts. In most cases, it'll be overkill. Stick to mild parts.

These look OK 1.6 (stock)ratio

Yeah those proforms are the ones I've been lookin at.

I'm trying to win a set of the cobra ones crane made for ford on eBay.

You could always upgrade these later after you get everything running good. Save money on these now for other more necessary things for the swap. Just a thought. It's easy to pop a valve cover off and drop these bad boys in.

I can't decide on wether I want Borg warner or alto frictions...

I know altos are made in USA but j don't know about the borgs.

What are your opinions?

Roller rockers are worth no more than 5hp at the top end, save the money for better things.

Both Alto and Borg Warner trans frictions are good. Try to avoid the really thin frictions unless the vehicle is for racing and not mainly street use.

Yeah but I'm nor after them for power I want valve train stability and longievity.

I doubt the stock stampers can handle constant use at Over .5" and with the pressures the double comp springs I'll be getting will put on them.

I won't be expanding the clutchs any so I'll be sticking to the standard clutch thickness.

Foes anyone know where Borg warners stuff is made?

Borg Warner is a high standard brand manufacturer, they make excellent products.

Unless you push the engine much at all past 5000rpm, the stock rockers will be fine. The higher spring pressures do matter, but the only real improvement would come by way of the studs, not the rockers. If you can't upgrade the rocker stud/bolt size beyond the 5/16" OEM size, don't mess with roller rockers. It's too expensive for the power, so as you said only the strength matters. For a mildly over stock 302, in a truck with under 5500-5000rpm, the stock valvetrain is not overstressed.

trans rebuild kit ordered-117$

1356 tailhousing with provision for speed sensor-30$

Speed sensor drive gear for 1356 output shaft-10$

Getting my trans ready to go-priceless!

hey jaime, where'd you get that c-collar to position the speed drive gear?
