'93 Limited
I'm original owner of a '93 Explorer Limited 4x4. I've rolled the odm a few times and she has been a great truck for me. Body is in great shap. I've done all my own work (i.e. new ball joints every 50k) but am really a newbie when it comes time to mod out a truck. Never done anything other than keep my truck running.

Now this truck is no longer a daily driver, but I'm looking to get more into the mod scene. Right now my budget is ~$5000.

What I am interested in what you guys think will be the biggest bang for the buck as I now plan my project.

What's the most cool I can do to this truck for that budget?

Lifted? Lowered?

What are you looking for? Power? Stereo? etc....

I would say lifted, thinking now of a hunting truck. But again - just looking for idea that are fun and cool

Give me some ideas, then I'll search the forums for the details. I just put in a car lift in the barn and fishing for ideas.

tks

4" lift kit and 33" tires IMO would be the coolest, quickest mods......

if your budget is 5k, its time for a sas. No questions.

Lockers

I'm thinking that a SAS will be too much for my skill level. I am more of a follow the instructuctions and I can get er done, but not very skilled yet on being open ended creative.

Right now thinking 4" superlift kit, 31" tires, new front/rear chrome bumpers and a winch.

For offroad I got Atv's. The truck will be on some nasty dirt and foul weather roads, and going to hunting camp. But the key is I don't see it off road road climbing, etc. I live in the midwest, so I get lots of snow, sleet, and have some bad dirt roads I need to travel, but not true offroad.

...what is your budget for a 1 time spending spree??? will you be buying new tires/wheels????

Looking at a total budget of ~$5k right now.

This is what I am starting with. Here is my ideas right now:

4" Lift kit from Superlift
31" tires
Warn wench
need to pick bumpers - chrome front/back

You can see what my project is startiing with. I also need to clean up some front end chassis parts (tie rod ends etc) when rebuilding.

Any other suggestions?

I suggest the Skyjacker 4" lift kit over the Superlift but thats just me

James Duff makes a nice 4" lift as well

4.10 or 4.56 gears depending on the tire size, forget about chrome bumpers if you are looking for off road style bumpers, anything welded with chrome will rust in nothing flat.

Consider the extended radius arms for any lift you choose, they will make a HUGE difference in the way the truck rides on and off road

I think I like skyjacker better but from their web site the only lift kit they make for my truck is a 2" add a leaf kit. That's why superlift

I'm am still looking around for a winch bumper. I did have my mind for a buckstop bumper but they don't make one for explorers. What winch type bumpers you guys running?

Yes need to go bigger than 31" - if going 4" then 35" for sure.

If you buy the Superlift be sure and weld some(or have someone weld) gussets on the passenger side axle bracket. They are known to break...........

With some gussets in the corners they are as strong as the Skyjacker brackets. Be sure to have the front and back side welded..........

Opps, well things have changed for me. The wife got wind of what I was doing and shut me down. The good news is that she will let me mod out a pickup, as we do really need a pickup, but I don't have the room for two SUV's a van AND a pickup so I gotta sell somthing.

Going to sell this '93. It's up on the e b ay right now if anybody near Akron, OH is interested. I started the bidding at $999.

...if you look in the classifieds here, brianjwilson has an awesome ranger ready to go for sale...;)
