My 2000 XLT Explorer 4 Door

This Explorer has new headlight, turn signal, and tail light assemblies.
There is a handful of new parts in the trunk area, and the transmission was rebuilt recently.
I'm just happy it has good rocker panels and no sun roof.

Great looking truck, the "no sunroof" was a huge plus when I bought my Explorer a couple months ago. And the 121,500 miles and tow hitch didn't hurt either. Anyway, good luck with this one keep us posted.

Today I got up early enough to see how the new headlights worked in the dark.
Just like the ones that I removed; they were pointing too low (only about 25 feet ahead).
I read somewhere that the low beams should shine about 160-200 feet ahead. Thats like 3-4 telephone pole (if they are still called that) distances if they are 50ft apart. The longest adjusters on the old headlights were broken, made sense seeing that they were pointing too low.

The Halo headlights I installed in my 98 two door Explorer back in 2009, had adjustment screws with either 8 or 10mm heads on them (can't quite remember). If I recall correctly there were two adjustment screws on each light, one for horizontal and one for vertical.
To adjust them you had to remove the headlight assembly, so it was trial and error to get them just right since you had to remove and re-install them to make adjustments. Also, the halo rings didn't light up very much, they were kind of dim. I think the old halos were lit up by a led and the ring kind of acted like a fiber optic wire if that makes sense.

The new headlights are an improvement over the old design halo's, the CCFL's that light the rings are really bright and very white in appearance.
You can see the halo's from pretty far away, I'm sure.
I was wondering how to adjust the aiming of the low beams; I didn't see the old hex headed adjustment screws like what was on the old ones.
There was a gear looking thing with a screw through the middle of it near where one of the adjusters would have been, that turned out to be the adjuster for vertical (up and down). I still don't see one for horizontal adjustment, but I don't need to adjust that angle anyway.

The gear looking thing allows you to adjust the vertical pointing with the headlight still installed, this is a great enhancement over the old halos.
I had to back the screws out quite a bit to get the beam to point out about 160 feet, but it got there. And it can be done with a Phillips screwdriver with the headlights still installed. I will continue to drive this vehicle this week and make another adjustment if needed.

Here are some pictures of the adjuster for vertical pointing, circled in red.

Well, almost 4 months after I installed the rear shocks, I finally installed the front ones.
They were on back order, I ordered them through Summit Racing, and they did arrive a couple weeks ago.
I also changed the oil again and installed a fuel filter. The old fuel filter looked pretty rusty (on the outside), I had to spray the fittings with PB Blaster to loosen the fuel lines from the filter.

I would like to know what shocks you went with, looks like there is an adjuster on it. Really need to address the shocks on my '97 4dr, I have heard bilstein will ride good and last for a while. I've also wanted to try KYB adjustable, is that what these are? I am in the process of updating and fixing all the neglected items on this truck, still beats a big payment every month.

theyre rancho rs9000s, quite sure

Ok, didn't consider those as I will not be doing any off roading. I will add them to the short list. Thanks.

Nice looking truck. Hard to believe these would have been 50k in todays dollars.

The Front shock part number is RS999229.
The number RS9000 is just the series for Rancho adjustable shocks.
I forget the rear part number but it might be RS999185 ?
Best to check for your application anyways. I got mine through Summit Racing.

Most of the 9000 series were on Summit, Rock Auto, and Amazon. I got the regular Rancho front shocks from Amazon, and soon I'll try the rears. I have some unknown coil over rear shocks that make my truck too high in the back, but the leafs are the softest on the Limited, and may have sagged also.

I liked the 9000’s on my plowing Mounty.

they might be the monroe load adjust ones, or are they not?

Thanks for the info. I will be pricing and comparing today. Still on '97 shocks, which I may as well say on the leaf springs and torsion bar only. Today's project drivers power window bushings, let the fun begin.

Today I replaced my Radiator. The tank on the passenger side cracked.
I had one in my garage from my old blue 98 four door. I had replaced it a little while before the timing chains went.
The old radiator was only a 2 row, so this 4 row will be a step up.
The area of the crack is circled in red.

just saw this- nice X! question- what style headlights are those? they look really nice, and I like that they dont have all those "lines" like the factory ones do, they look clearer ;)
Today I had a little time and energy to play around with the radio. I had turned it on before and saw that it worked but the left front speaker has no sound from it. I verified that today and will look further into it another day. I have some spare door speakers just in case. The D/F door was replaced, I can tell by the paint and missing certification label.
This vehicle has the 6 CD changer in the glove box too. I wanted to test out all 7 spots and see if a CD burned with a computer would play in them. I was surprised to find that they all work, and this thing actually plays CDs burned with a PC.
I will most likely replace this unit with a Kenwood DNX6180 like I have in all 4 of my other trucks, if I can find a working one of those.
Should I bother to test the cassette player? LOL

also how does yours have the CAD axle? thought it was discontinued in late 2g! the ones with dedicated 2wd were cad right? also is that the premium HU, or the base? it doesnt have the rds, but doesnt look liek the base either. either way looking sharp! equipped very very similarly to my 98, except for the colors.

CAD should have been factory equipment on 95-96 only.

To be honest, in my opinion, those lights are trash there awful to aim, I had mine go out in 6 months. Went back to stock with leds so much better.

Oh well can't exactly say stock car parts replacements by cool view, same with fogs. I thought you were looking at spyder halos. The spyders are horrible my fogs were brighter. But those look nice one assembly yes please.
